4. Hey,
I've been told to "go back to my country" and that I was a terrorist. My ancestry goes back to the Mayflower, and I am a pacifist. But that hasn't kept the right wingers from spitting on me and pushing me-and I'm sure they would say it was "my fault".

3. And you couldn't use a worse word for Muslims
"crusade" is as much, if not more, of a red flag than "jihad" is for Westerners.

A QUESTION OF VISION
Sherle R. Schwenninger, The Nation

Rather than pointing us in a more constructive direction,
much of the Democratic leadership is reinforcing a foreign
policy agenda that has divided us from the world.

http://www.alternet.org/story/26352 /

For the sake of party unity, many Democrats last year put aside their differences with John Kerry's foreign policy positions, in particular his tortured support for the war in Iraq.

Situating the party as close to the Bush agenda as possible without actually embracing it, it was argued, was a reasonable price to pay for taking back the White House. The gambit--of being long on national security and the "war on terror" and short on the economy and jobs--failed, however, to persuade working-class and suburban voters in places like Ohio and Missouri, reinforcing the public view that the Democrats have no mind of their own on issues of great national and international importance.

Unchastened, the neoliberal wing of the party wants the Democrats to repeat this gambit by toughening their rhetoric and committing yet more resources to the fight against what they describe as Islamic jihadism. In a New Republic essay late last year, Peter Beinart called on Democrats to rediscover their "fighting faith" and to commit themselves to a new generational struggle against "Islamic fascism."

More recently, Blueprint magazine, the house organ of the Democratic Leadership Council, published a statement on national security, signed by leading Democrats, urging the party to "make winning the war against Islamic jihadism the party's first priority." The group's agenda--prosecuting the global "war on terror," democratizing the Middle East and increasing the military's ground forces--is echoed by likely Democratic presidential candidates, including Senators Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton.

..more..

sound familiar?

11. How about the outrage about EID Muslim Stamp?
Edited on Thu Oct-06-05 11:02 AM by melissinha
So I get this from a co-worker who is basically a good yellow dog environmentalist...

How ironic is this??!! They don't even believe in Christ and they're getting their own Christmas stamp, but don't dream of posting the ten commandments on federal property?

USPS New Stamp

This one is impossible to believe. Scroll down for the text.

If there is only one thing you forward today.....let it

be this!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of PanAm
Flight 103!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the World
Trade Center in 1993!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the Marine
barracks in Lebanon!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the military
barracks in Saudi Arabia!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the American
Embassies in Africa!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM bombing of the USS COLE!

REMEMBER the MUSLIM attack on 9/11/2001!

REMEMBER all the AMERICAN lives that were lost in those vicious MUSLIM attacks!

Now the United States Postal Service REMEMBERS and HONORS the
EID MUSLIM holiday season with a commemorative first class
holiday postage stamp.

REMEMBER to adamantly and vocally BOYCOTT this stamp
when purchasing your stamps at the post office.
To use this stamp would be a slap in the face to all those
AMERICANS who died at the hands of those whom this stamp honors.

REMEMBER to pass this along to every patriotic AMERICAN you know

So I told her that as a person with many Muslim friends the email was insulting and that I wanted to know what EID stood for. After seaching, I found out "Eid" means festival (loosely translated) I told her, this is not a Christmas stamp as it is their FESTIVAL. I said this is an equivalent to Christmas stamps and Hanukkah stamps.

We read a nice PC answer on snopes that explained this... But then she tells me that she still doesn't like it when those people take over our chain restaurants and gas stations...to which I replied they have EVERY right to do so as does any citizen and other immigrants.

YOu want to know why people support this war and this crusade? Its attitudes like this that fuel the populace and its sickening.

12. Oh for heaven's sakes
go to snopes on this one, and please check out the price of the stamp. Eid is a holiday at the end of Ramadan, and has nothing to do with Christmas. When this stamp first came out, it just so happened that Ramadan coincided with the Christmas season. This year, Ramadan is in October/November. The Muslim calendar is lunar, and so holidays don't coincide with the Gregorian calendar. I hope they have the EID stamps soon at my post office.

13. if you had read my post through
you would have seen that I did mention snopes, and that I was outraged at the outrage.... that was precisely my point.

Its not a "Christmas" stamp at all, but a festival in and of itself that is Islamic. I was simply saying that its outrage like this that FUELS the neocon agenda.

14. And how stupid is that
"They don't even believe in Christ and they're getting their own Christmas stamp, but don't dream of posting the ten commandments on federal property?"

Of course they do "believe" in Jesus and honor him as a great teacher. This is something else but it would be no mockery if they did decide to honor his birthday (although if he was man and not myth 12/25 is not his date of birth)

And we nice, proper white folks put out a religious stamp every year. I always get the Madonna and child stamp and use them year round, figuring the birth of Christ energy should be constant. I'm not even religious. So that 10 commandment comparison is...stupid.
