Miers is more qualified to be a Justice than Bush is to be President.
She has actually performed work whereas Mr. Bushie has simply performed while others work. I am just amazed at the outcry by conservatives that she is not qualified while they continue to support a man who has failed miserably, at the cost of untold amounts of human suffering and fiscal damage in almost everything he has ever attempted, to be President and to support the appointment of countless other inadequately qualified people to government jobs.

Furthermore, it is my opinion that Ms. Miers is more qualified to be on the Supreme Court than Condi Rice, an education ADMINISTRATOR, is to be Secretary of State. The Republican Party elevated an EXTERMINATOR to leadership in the House of Representatives. Dennis Hastert was a COACH. Elizabeth Cheney, Julie Myers, Michael Brown---the list of totally or partially unqualified Republicans appointed to political positions is endless.

I think the reason the Miers nomination is inflaming the right is that they have a rabid desire to see Roe v. Wade overturned, not because they feel Ms. Miers is unqualified in general. They think she is unqualified to overturn Roe because she hasn't been working on that in the court system for years and because she is not a totally outfront pro-lifer. Also, she is unmarried and childless and they might wonder if she has ever had an abortion herself!

The desperation to prove her pro-life credentials is almost pathetic. Here's part of what National Right to Life has to say to support her:
Hecht also said that he and Miers "went to two or three prolife dinners in the late 80s or early 90s."

Many conservatives are more upset that Miers is unqualified than they are about the fact that Bush himself is unqualified, IMHO, because they truly only saw the election of Bush as a necessary step in overturning Roe and see everything else (war, torture, corruption, gasoline prices, etc.) as irrelevant. The abortion issue has worked for the GOP for decades but now it has apparently collided with the need for Bush to protect himself from legal consequences for his actions and something will have to give. The pro-lifers are more loyal to their pro-life ideal than they are to the Bush Family and the GOP really is imploding. That's why Bush shifted his propaganda focus to the "War on Terror" today, but I think that is only going to enrage the pro-lifers even more.

Memo to pro-lifers: The GOP is in control. If abortion is still legal it is because the GOP wants it to be legal and you are being played for one-issue fools for your vote while they loot and plunder our treasury and sacrifice actual humans in wars, disasters, and budgetary/legislative homicide. Stop being fools! Your understanding of "pro-life" is a propaganda meme and you will only redeem yourselves if you see abortion in the wider context of the entire cycle of human life, all life, and the health of our planet, Mother Earth. Wake up and smell the blood on the hands of the GOP, pro-lifers. And please do it before they start dropping bombs on Iran and Syria. Thank you.

1. By that standard
who wouldn't be qualified.

Personally I think all the RW "protest" of Miers is propaganda. Per Rove, per usual.

2. I agree with you barbarann. She's certainly not qualified to...
be given a life-long appointment to the Supreme Court, but they didn't have a problem with putting a completely incompetent person in charge of our entire country for 8 years. (It may not be a life-long gig, but it allowed irreparable harm to be done to our country.) They're only using the "not qualified" argument for the reasons that you said -- not because they really care.

3. Bush can't even ride a Segway or eat a pretzel.
And they are screaming about Miers. It's just astounding.
