Rush Limbaugh..."I have to lie"

while driving this afternoon, scanning the radio, came across RL and a caller wanted to know how he went from a "distinguished citizen to a hate monger"

RL said that he had to destroy the democrats and the only way to do that was with hate...then he said in order to do that you have to lie....

I couldn't believe it...immediately after that he went to a break and came back with some Clinton bashing....

did anyone else hear this?

Has Rush flipped too? Maybe that call from Dickhead sent him spinning over the edge.

wouldn't that ALSO be a lie? :shrug: It's hard to tell when Rusty is telling the truth so you have to assume everything he says is a lie.

unless it was a repeat show...I never listen to the guy, but the caller caugt my attention

the caller was from San Francisco and was noting when Al Gore debated Ross Pierot over NAFTA...Al Gore said there were many outstanding citizens supporting it, and RL's name was on that outstanding list....
and then the caller asked why he went from outstanding citizen to hate monger....

RL said he had to destroy the democrats and their strategy (or something very similar) and the only way he could do that was through hate, because you can not do it with ideas because democrats do not think they have any bad ideas....and so you have to do it with hate, and you have to lie..

swear to GOD..that's what he said.

The key part of this quote is the phrase "in their minds." He is saying that is what the democrats believe, that the only way they could be defeated is with hate. Since democrats "don't think their ideas are defeatable, so you have to lie about them..." He is not admitting to lying, he is explaining why he is accused of lying and using hate....

...I had a different take. The way it is presented here, it sounds like he admitted to what he does and had to do. I may be wrong...and perhaps I am, but I didn't hear it quite the way you did. I suppose that if he had said those things, my ears would have perked up...they didn't.

What could you find so wrong with the Democrats that it would take hate and lies to accomplish that?

As I mentioned to you in an earlier post, the context that the quote was said in was important. If you read the entire phone conversation, its obvious that he was stating how that caller felt that Rush operated.

And, I'm not defending Rush...I am defending liberals from unknowingly running with this story when there just isn't any "there" there.

In my defense, note that MediaMatters.org...a group of people I have great respect for, have not run with this story.

In the lexicon of lying, there are white lies and bare-faced lies. Facts can be fudged, forged or shaded. There are fibbers, fabricators and feckless fabulists. By whatever clinical term, the truth simply is not in some people.

Now scientists have an anatomical inkling why.

new study from the University of Southern California, published in the October issue of the British Journal of Psychiatry, suggests that the talent for compulsive deception is embedded in the structure of the brain itself.

People who habitually lie and cheat — pathological liars — appear to have much more white matter, which speeds communication between neurons, in the prefrontal cortex than normal people, the researchers found. They also have fewer actual neurons.

The differences affect a portion of the brain, located just behind the forehead, that enables people to feel remorse, learn moral behavior and plan complex strategies.

The surplus of connections between neurons might enable these people to be more adept at the complex neural networking that underlies deceit.

Lying is hard work and these brains may be better equipped to handle it, the researchers said.
