Texas congressman(R) arrested on DWI in South Dakota
10/11/2005
More Details On Congressman DWI
http://www.keloland.com/NewsDetail2817.cfm?Id=0,43152

A Texas congressman and distinguished USD alum faces DWI charges. U.S. Representative Kevin Brady was born in Vermillion and received a degree from the University of South Dakota in 1990. Brady was back at USD as one of six former students receiving an Alumni Achievement Award. His homecoming visit ended in jail Friday night.

Highway patrol manpower was beefed up for homecoming, but Brady wasn't stopped at a checkpoint. He was arrested just before midnight during a regular traffic stop just 100 feet from his hotel. "The type of violation that we stop for literally hundreds of times each year," says highway patrol Capt. Jeff Talbot.

Brady's serving his fifth term in congress, representing the Eighth District of Texas....

Brady failed field sobriety tests, but he refused to take a blood alcohol test. If he's prosecuted under South Dakota law, he might not drive again for a while. "In South Dakota, that refusal to taking the blood test could read to a year's suspension of your driving privileges," says Talbot. If he's found guilty, Brady could face up to a $1,000 fine and a year in jail.

under South Dakota Law the refusal to take a blood test does not result in loss of driving privileges for a year if it becomes moot because he pleads "guilty." He does, however, in that case obtain a DUI conviction with its penalties.

Also, if he's a Brady from Vermillion then I believe that I know some of his extended family.

Also, I intend to repost this in the South Dakota Forum where I will give due credit unless someone objects within the next few minutes.

Also, it's kind of ironic that a Texas Republican Congressman would come from Vermillion. With the exception of Indian Reservation Counties, Clay County is the most Democratic county in South Dakota.

5. Hey...
...that's my congressman you're talking about.

A couple of elections ago he got 95% of the vote (unopposed by Dem).

So, take pity on me DU'ers.

6. Why isn't he in his disaster-hit district?
Brady represents a major portion of what was hit by Rita, so why the hell is he in S Dakota?
