People are mad at Sherrod Brown because...
He beat Dennis Kucinich for the Democratic nomination for Secretary State in 1982?

1. People are mad at him because he dirty dealed another Dem.
Edited on Wed Oct-12-05 04:26 PM by longship
He told Dems he would not run for Senate. Paul Hackett jumped into the void only to have Sen. "Dirty DLC" Schumer interfere and convince Brown to back-stab Hackett by reentering into the race. A good Dem would have told Schumer to chuck it.

10. BINGO.

"Browns a waffle, Dewine is toast, and Major Hacket is hungry. Lets eat."

Brown stabbed Hackett in the back. Why is this so hard to comprehend?

2. Brown backstabbed Hackett. Brown promised not to run..
and suddenly jumped in. :eyes: Hackett is a strong candidate and his military backround will help him. Brown has just made a dirty primary become a reality.

3. Who did Brown promise?
I'm not from Ohio, so I'm not clear on this promise.

Thanks.

6. Casual? Formal? Offhand?
I'm curious that his decision is causing such anger.

I mean, this is politics, after all.

8. formal.
The anger comes from the frustration in Ohio (esp. Dems - and I'm sure Dem's all over can empathize), but, our State is knee-deep in corruption, job loss, etc. The bad press that the Repugs have been getting leaves a lot of room for Dems to make serious gains (and clean up the mess) in legislative seats and State level executive seats (Gov, SOS, AG, etc).... IMHO - I wanted Sherrod to be a leader in this effort. If he had announced that he would seek the Senate seat or gov, before he stated that he would not, i would have whole heartedly supported him. Now, it causes a wedge in the party. It is all about the way that his campaign went about it.

9. No wonder you're frustrated.
I guess the question is, which one has the best chance of winning the seat, since they both sound like good candidates.

I think Hackett has a great future and I hope he doesn't get discourages.

13. And Hackett shot himself in the ass
by laying into Harry Reid.

What an idiot. I'm glad he got doublecrossed.

4. it has NOTHING to do with Kucinich
it has EVERYTHING to do with the way he went about his decision. He said that he would not run for Senate. Hackett's camp let it be know that he would run and announce on Oct. 24th then Brown jumps back in. It has not been handled well by the Brown camp. It is great frustration. On my part, because I looked to Brown to be a leader of a Dem effort in Ohio and this creates a divide.

7. I'm not mad at him at all
I think he has every right to change his mind and re-enter. It's October, if my calendar doesn't deceive me.

My oppostion is basic: a generic liberal Democrat is extremely unlikely to oust an incumbent Republican senator in a red-leaning Ohio. I handicap Hackett as having a far superior chance. I understand the problems with Taft, etc., but we've heard that all before. A red state will tend to default red unless the incumbent implodes or the challenger is unique or exceptional.

12. Let's see..
.... Ohio, old-style liberal vs. new-style maveric. Which one is likely to win?

Brown should go away. If he won't, Hackett should force a primary. I'm tired of the old and in the way bunch, they aren't doing shit, and they can't win shit.

14. And if Hackett won the primary, he would be slaughtered
by DeWine.

Forget it. Ohio voters aren't that stupid.

16. Wow. If Hackett would get 'slaughtered' by DeWine...
Id hate to see what would happen to Brown.

By the way, Hacketts success in OH-2 discredits everything you just said.
