Arnie Vinnick summed it up very nicely
Edited on Thu Oct-13-05 10:09 PM by BOSSHOG
The republican presidential candidate on West Wing said that if citizens insisted that candidates pass a religious litmus test they were just asking to be lied to. (not direct quote, but direct gist.)

On edit, I almost forgot, for religious zealot lurkers, bush proves Vinnick right.

1. Great line. And if the nominees do pander to the fundementalists,
they are showing disregard & disrespect for the Constitution. If the Republicans had any integrity, they would finally level with these religious zealots & explain to them that SCOTUS' job is to interpret the law, not change it to suit their personal philosophies.
