Fantasy Time: If Bush/Cheney Are Thrown Out in 2007...

And the Democrats control both the House and Senate, how do you think a President Pelosi would do? If she didn't want the job, then we can assume it would go to the senate pro tempore -- more than likely Robert Byrd, although I suppose it could be Ted Kennedy -- freepers' heads would explode! -- or maybe even John Kerry if we weren't too concerned about seniority. (Wouldn't that be a twist?)

This is daydreaming time, I suppose, as we wait for indictments and long for the day when the assholes can be brought to justice.

1. That's assuming the elections don't get stolen...

... and Bush/Cheney get kicked out then. Something tells me something will happen sooner rather than later... so I think there will be at least a different VP - and a Republican one at that. :(

5. I think the presumption--and the reason for the 2007 date--relate to

the OP's hope for a Dem Congress by then. 2006 could well be a bigger revolution than anything Newt ever dreamed of.

6. I do understand the point, it's just the numbers are not there

In 2006 there are 17 DEMS, 1 IND and 15 REPS up for election. Even if Dems take ALL Republican seats that puts us only at 60 in the Senate (A blowout that big is a fantasy too.) Let's say we have a landslide, Dems keep all 17, pick up Ind in VT and take out 8 Republicans. Senate will still only be 53D, 47R.

It would take 67 to convict and that means 14 Repubs would have to switch. None will vote to put Pelosi in as President. It would have to be a Ford like situation as in 73, an acceptable Repub VP put in first.

7. Still, things could go much worse for the Puggies than we can foresee,

both in Nov 2006 and afterwards, when a Dem majority starts digging up bones. It only takes a majority to go digging. They may find things so revolting to the public that the Puggies would be taking their political lives in their hands to vote against impeachment.

8. Very true especially when in the majority you have the supoena

power. I just don't see enough "country before party" types in the Senate GOP caucus.

And it would be their careers in the GOP too as the base is rabid enough never to nominate anyone again who made Nancy Pelosi president.

But we can hope. Some revelations may turn even the Republicans' stomaches. Nixon was down to about 10 votes in the Senate when he resigned.
