I just thought of a new "Rallying Cry" for 2008, "REMEMBER NIXON!"

"Remember Nixon!" because, even though Nixon campaigned on ending the Vietnam War in 1968, he (and Kissinger) promptly sabotaged the Vietnam Peace Talks that the Johnson Administration had been involved in, and then delayed the "end" of the Vietnam War until the 1972 election campaign.

Forgive me if I am wrong about any of this time-line, I was only 4 in 1968 and am only relating what I've learned lately about that time period.

I thought of this after hearing that Condi Rice refusing to say she expects the troops will come home in 10 years, so my point is, even if the 2008 GOP candidate does campaign on "ending" the Iraq War, we should respond, "Remember Nixon!":applause:

Nixon did not end the war. It did not end until 1975, when he was out of office. Maybe it hasn't ended yet. I turned 17 in 1968, still an unbelievable year. By the way, here's another historical tidbit: More of our soldiers died in Vietnam under Nixon's regime than during Johnson's tenure. Nixon had a "secret plan," so secret it didn't exist. But, with all that, Bush has clearly knocked him off his perch as Worst President Ever.

I still remember all the post-Vietnam Nixon defenders, in the lead-up to the 1976 election repeatedly saying, "Well, Nixon ended the war in Vietnam..." :banghead: :mad:

Calling a politician a Nixon is almost like calling a RW German a Hitler (not quite, but almost).

In 2008, their will still be that 33% who think * was a great leader, in 2008 the Nixon defenders will be few and far between, unless all this, "Nixon would be a Left-wing ReThug, if the RW hadn't yet kicked him out of the party first" talk catches on.
