Marist Poll shows both Guiliani and McCain would beat Hillary in 2008

I don't support Hillary because of her pro-war stance, but personal feelings aside, it would be a DISASTER for us if she wins the nomination. Hillary will not win a majority- she carries is too much baggage, is too controversial, and you bet she would rally and unify the fractured ranks of the GOP, Conservatives, and Evangelical Religious Nut-Bags (who would vote in droves). I pray that she does not decide to run; she may very well get the nomination if she does.

The poll, mirroring other recent national surveys, had Clinton as the clear front-runner for the 2008 Democratic nomination, favored by 41 percent of her party's voters to 17 percent for Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts and 14 percent for former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina, Kerry's running mate in 2004.

Asked about Clinton's political leanings, 39 percent of voters said she was too liberal, while 46 percent said she was about right.

"She remains a controversial figure when she moves out from the Democratic primary sweepstakes," Marist pollster Lee Miringoff said.

<snip>

The poll had McCain leading Clinton, 50 percent to 41 percent. Giuliani was ahead of the former first lady, 50 percent to 43 percent.

2. I still think it's the media creating Hillary's poll numbers..
Why don't we see stellar poll numbers for her on any of the Democratic forums? None of em.. zip, zilch, nada, none.

What's up with that?

3. So who do the polls show beating McCain or Guiliani
Not that it matters this far out. I still say Clinton is our best chance.

11. Agree dsc
Giuliani has as much chance as the last NYC mayor who ran, John Lindsey.

McCain has an excellent chance if his health is up to it.

If not it opens up. Maybe Haley Barbour?

7. McCain is certifiably insane!
Giuliani is great and he is also flawed at the same time. If Rudi were to run there will be a lot of controversy about his record as mayor, a record that has good points but also a lot of bad things.

Hillary believes in Hillary.

10. The religious right won't go with McCain.
He has criticized them in the past as intolerant--particularly Robertson and Falwell. That's the kiss of death.

12. But he's pro-life so
I think he'd be acceptable in the end. Especially if Hillary is the opponent.
