Breaking news: Republicans discover that there are not enough scientific
graduates. Frist making a speech on the Senate floor.

Whining how China and India graduate so many people each year and we are losing our edge, and how outsourcing technical jobs to China and India is bad.

Where were they during the last four years when the Democrats were saying that.

The neo-cons may yet figure out that it was the middle class that they destroyed that fueled the economy in this country.

22. I got into an argument with my roommate last night about this
We are both Science Graduate students (Me: 4th year Chemical Engineering Ph.D. candidate; Her: 1st year molecular and cell biology grad student) so I would have thought she would agree with me that science is the better pursuit.

Anyway, we're watching the Apprentice (she makes me watch) and she says to me, "I should have been a business major, it's a much better degree than Biology because you make more money."

Immediately I start ranting about how Business is a fake major (if your product is really as good as you say it is, it'll sell itself) and that Science is eternal. How many of us remember names like Newton, Galileo, Archimedes, etc.? Now, name the largest wine merchant during the Roman empire. That's the problem though, our society has become brainwashed to think that Business is some important and necessary degree if we're ever to have viable enterprise in this country, but that's the opposite of the truth.

We'll never have viable business models in this country if we stop doing SCIENCE. What are the millions of business majors going to sell (it certainly isn't going to be anything dealing with computers, engines, plastics, pharmaceuticals, software, anything mechanical, anything chemical, anything biological including cures for diseases, etc.) Basically, a business major is a leech, they suck the blood of intelligent scientists who are too lazy (or too busy as the case usually is) to market and sell their products at ridiculously inflated prices. What we need is more Scientists and less MBA's

8. Earth to Frist...
There also aren't enough physical facilities to do the work in even if we had the jobs and people to fill them. You can't have scientists when you won't pay to educate our children.

the line like so many other Republican leaders. Santorum, Delay, that's expected, but as a medical doctor, he should know better than to toe the line when it comes to Republican standards on science.

China and India graduate tons of people because the corporations that donate to YOUR party ship all of the latest technology, the R&D assignments and dollars hand over fist to those nations, Frist. They exploit their labor, make the ruling classes here (and over there) exponentially wealthy and destroy the middle class and any opportunity they might have had to GET a science/math related job.

America on the other hand won't tolerate poor smart people. Education makes them uppity and they might become democrats.

That's got to be more important than Scientists who could develop new and more expensive ways to kill brown people who don't luv Jeebus....

Maybe they'll eventually burn Frist at the stake because he's cut people open and twiddled with their innards, the BLASPHEMER!

Never fear, though....INTELLIGENT DESIGN will restore Murka to its former GLORY! Our BS and MS holders will be the wonder of the world!

They'll wonder how such stupid and superstitious people ever graduated from college....

That's about all they need (or want) to believe. :grr:

19. Not true - Everybody was told they needed an MBA or something like that
so the level in Maths and Science in this country has dramatically dropped. We are losing jobs not only to China and India, but to Europe whose salaries are equivalent or higher than here.

Start forming REAL scientists and you will see high level jobs come back.

20. No incentive = no students. You'd think the repukes would understand THAT.
Yet they don't.

So let China and India take over. So much the better. It's just business to our corporate apostates.
