BUDGET

Panel Approves Cuts In Food Stamp, Commodity Programs
The House Agriculture Committee today approved its $3.7 billion portion of the FY06 budget reconciliation package by taking actions that CBO estimated would cost almost 300,000 food stamp recipients their benefits and deny about 40,000 low-income children their automatic eligibility for school lunches and breakfasts.

Meanwhile, the Republican majority on the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted early today to slash about $11 billion from Medicaid, even as it targeted increased healthcare assistance to those affected by the Gulf Coast hurricanes. In approving its portion of the FY06 budget reconciliation package, the panel also approved $1 billion in subsidies to help low-income families pay their winter heating bills and set aside another $1.5 billion in rebates to help TV viewers buy converters for the upcoming switch from analog to digital television signals. 1. All the cuts seem to be
aimed at the poor.I fail to understand why they don't change their course after poll after poll shows that they are getting creamed.People see that they are out of touch with the average american.Either it's extreme arrogance ,stupidity,or they are not afraid of losing the election.Maybe it's allready been paid for.

3. They will.
Sooner or later you hit the tipping point.Poor people don't notice somethings in politics, but they notice the gas prices, fellow americans dieing in the streets of America and Baghdad. They'll vote. The American revolution is coming and repugs will be left out in the cold.

4. Sure hope you're right (not holding out much hope myself)
I think you're going to find that despite being screwed over left and right and every other direction, there's a large portion of the population (25%?) that will rob a bank, burglarize the neighborhood, and resort to homicide if necessary to feed their family/keep a roof over their heads LONG before they EVER vote for someone with a (D) next to his name, no matter how bad it gets.

These are the people I really fear--they're so FUCKED in the head that they don't care what happens to anyone around them.
