8. I was among the naysayers earlier but the more I hear
people like David Gergen saying that there has been major damage done by Libby's indictment, I'm appreciative of how big this alone is. And I truly don't think KKKarl is out of hot water yet -- we just need to be patient. (A little tidbit here, a little tidbit there; we don't need it to all happen at once.)

13. Exactly. All the pundits are spinning.....
some for the WH, some against. But however you spin this, the VP's chief of staff has been indicted. That is never good....pundits are not usually correct about gut issues; they're too inside the beltway. It may take time, but these criminals are going down! As I said, it's been a good day.

I tried not to get amped up over the last two weeks..believe me it was hard. Especially here on DU...where so many were making over the top predictions. Sorry, I guess I'm still bummed it didn't work out that way. I think alot of people are, and feel like all is lost. Some of those people also got pretty upset after the last election. I just don' think its fair to label them all as moles...some are genuinely feeling like all is lost.

26. NO, they simply have come to an unpopular opinion
Demanding that everyone come to the same happy positive conclusion and refusing to accept that the facts that we are working with can also be read less optimistically is just censoring dissent. Especially when those who have a different viewpoint are accused of being "moles" and "trolls" with an "agenda".

No one here can say that they know what will happen so this insistance that the best possible outcome is the only one acceptable is nothing but koolaid. I don't drink that shit.

you see one. The Chief of Staff of the Vice President of the US was indicted. That's not good enough? What BS.

Your binary way of thinking is a bore. Because one sees trolls on this board who are encouraging pessimistic thought it does not follow that everyone who is thinking pessimistically is a troll. Apparantly you have never had Logic 101. Taking things a little personally, huh?

As for stifling dissent, who is stifling? As I read across these posts, there are quite a few dissenting opinions. Including the trolls and moles.

42. Actually this idea.would possibly be very good
Edited on Fri Oct-28-05 08:43 PM by lildreamer316
because instead of the mods having to watch out for and control a bunch of threads where people are saying "there's a troll/moll/freep/etc. in another thread" and then everyone asking and etc. etc. etc.; someone can just post the smilie and be done with. Less angry actual WORDS means probably a quicker end to whatever the (usually trivial to begin with) problem is. I'm not being very clear here, but do you get what I mean? We need a mole smilie and a troll smilie. Or maybe I am blond and stupid. Let's toss it around later.

49. Mmmm, I guess
it could be used this way too. It seems people are going to do that in a roundabout way anyway, but I certainly don't want to encourage it. What I mean is, for example, let's say there is an exremly troll-sh post/reply to something. Mostly people here 1) try to engage them in some very intense discussion on said topic (Very good and educational or at least fun) or 2)reply with some kind of thing like a ticking clock or "you won't last long" or some such thinly disguised way of identifiying who they think is a troll/mole. That is their opinion, but if you just post the smilie, it can be taken as just a jab instead of an actual call-out Example : :dunce: :nopity:
I am certainly ready to admit this could be a completely BS idea; just thinking it might help lighten the mood. We wouldn't really know until we tried it, and that could be bad. Just not sure.

50. Well, but
I think it's different than using the violin or the dunce icon... a "mole" or "troll" dropping icon would be explicitly saying you think somebody is a mole or a troll. I think that's against the rules, and I also think it's a bad idea.

As I noted above, it sometimes hard to tell the "trolls" and "moles" from those who are basically on "our side" but are expressing different opinions. My post was meant to be a comment that when you see a LOT of negative posts about a development most people on "our side" see as positive, that seems to be to be moles (multiple) running a psy-ops on us. Uh, IMHO, of course.

It was people that I never would have guessed in a million years. People that have huge post counts, that you never would've ever suspected. 48. Caution!
Not everybody who expresses disappointment is necessarily a mole. Those people you respect may simply have had the misfortune of *appearing* to be part of a psy-ops campaign, by posting about their disappointment at the same time as the "moles." Don't let one post change your opinion. However, it might be worth keeping an eye out for similar occurrences. There's some old saying I never get quite right... something about once is an occurrence, twice is a coincidence, thrice is a conspiracy. Or something like that.

this is full of sh*t. I don't have a strong opinion either way, but for anyone to imply that because someone sees things differently than you do makes them either a troll or stupid is amazingly arrogant.

You have your voice, and they have theirs. You have the right to use your voice, and so do they. This is the difference between us and the right.

It's true that some of the people that you describe are probably trolls, but many are not.

Flame away -- I don't care.

46. Note, I am not accusing any ONE, but
I admit I wasn't clear in my response to sparosnare (My defense, I was trying to cook dinner and keep up with the board too.)

When I said "all the doom and gloomers" I didn't mean each and every person who isn't happy with todays indictment. I meant the NUMBER of " gloom and doomers trying to tell us that we're screwed, it's over, give up, go home"

The sheer number of negative threads is a classic tactic... it overwhelms the board so that the initial impression any body coming in gets is that this has been a terrible day for us. It's psychological warfare, meant to blunt our energy.

If you are an individual left-leaning (or even just "anti-bushcabal" person who is disappointed enough in today's limited indictment that you felt the need to start a thread - well, I think you're wrong to be disappointed, but I respect any such *sincere* statement of your feelings. But when the front page of this forum is running (at the time I started this thread) 10-1 with gloom and doom about today, I say that's evidence that "somebody" is trying to run a psy-op on us.

I may be wrong, but that's what I believe.

noticed a few of them in the Louisiana forum, trying GOP talking points of blaming everyone except FEMA for Katrina screw-up.

Most moles have low post count, and no donation star, but I believe that a few of them are deep-cover, have contributed $$, but always try to cut down Dem arguments and cast doom and gloom.

Is this their life? They must think they are doing something high and mighty for the Wingers, kinda like being in the CIA, I guess. Sad and pathetic.

55. If they didn't exist Rove would have invented them
There is nothing new under the sun, all tried and true methods for messing up adversaries are pursued from generation to generation making adaptations for changes in technology. Sometimes the dirty work is done by armatures, sometimes by pros. But one of the main tactics used is to get everyone so paranoid about freeps trolls and moles that we distract and bloody ourselves with our own infighting over it.

I find it easier to argue the merit of a position and hold back for a long time before passing a judgment. Sincere people say self defeating and/or divisive things sometimes. I prefer to call them on the content until the pattern is so blatant that it is ridiculous.
