until he had his second term in the bag. Then he just went for it completely without restraint and produced the highest number of U.S. casualties of the entire war and God knows how many Iraqis, knowing that he no longer had to worry about the election, and had a free hand to do whatever he wanted.
It does appear to have been closely tied specifically to the situation in Falluja. The other month were we had similar casualties was in 4/08 when they first tried to retake the city, but ultimately backed down due to the political price at the time. There were 135 U.S. fatalities that month, compared with 137 that November.
Currently though, the overall fatality numbers seem to be increasing right now. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up escalating to those worse numbers in some other context. There's really no predicting what will happen over there, other than that things seem to be steadily deteriorating.
