with apologies to Mr. McLuhan

We have a lot of discussion here, at times, about cable news shows and their personalities. A *lot* of discussion about the personalities.

To be honest, I don't know why. I understand that we want some semblance of fair representation in the media, but hanging on every comment from every talking head on CNN, MSNBC or C-SPAN seems a little pointless in the scheme of things. You know what I mean?

They don't have a vote in the US Senate or the House, let alone a state legislature, county body or town council.

And we may overplay their influence on those that do.

I wonder why this happens and wonder if we're missing something, as a political discussion board, with the focus on the media instead of the message.

Off the top of the head 2 cents.

1. Not to me. I NEVER watch TV, so I have no idea what all the fuss is about
There are so many good sources of news, why subject oneself to the horror of TV "news?" Doesn't make sense to me.

2. Because of the Media, Our Message is Going Nowhere
The media functions as a vital part of the Republican party.

That is why we can hold massive demonstations and noboby knows about it.
That is why Democratic candidates are not seen or heard from.
That is why the Republicans can get away with stealing election after election.

3. For most of America the medium is the message in 15 second sound bites
and they do wield a disproportianate power and influence all the way over to radicalrightwing talk radio.

But, we do need to hone our message and then get it out on the media.
