An amazing This American Life
I can't provide a link since they don't post shows until after the weekend is over, but if you can catch it on NPR I highly recommend it. I only listened to the first 43 minutes so I don't know what acts 2 and 3 were like but act 1 was terrific.

It featured the study in the Lancet that quantified deaths in Iraq. Not only was the methodology discussed in great detail, but there was also an interview with a human rights activist who had be quoted to discredit the report who it turned out hadn't read it and was working for the Pentagon as the person who chose the targets to be bombed. He had since left to join Human Rights Watch. It was fascinating and illuminating. If you can listen tomorrow I highly recommend it.

2. Yes....I found myself planted in front of the radio, listening.

Ira deserves some sort of award for this one. Or maybe just knowing he did it is reward enough.

The estimate of 30 civilians killed for every one bad guy is a bit chilling, isn't it. Far worse than I'd imagined.

3. He is a great journalist
I also love his voice. He has a wonderful presence on the radio and a great judge of what makes an iteresting and informative story. He is my favorite working journalist today.

5. my best guess is that he is produced
by PRI while All Things Considered is produced by NPR. Though that is only a guess. The other problem might be length. Rarely is a story on NPR a half hour long.

8. Glass started off as a reporter for NPR.
If you ever get a chance to see him live, he talks about why he wasn't the greatest reporter.

6. Whew, caught it.
Great show. They talked about statistics of a very possible 98,000 Iraq civilian deaths. Definitly catch the website stream if you can. Here:

You can also buy old shows on iTunes for around $3.00.

9. Thanks for the link. Somehow I managed not to find the website when
I went looking for it. The first "This American Life" show I ever heard was "Running Down the Antelope" and I've been a devoted fan since.

The man-in-the-well story about did me in.

7. Human Rights Watch is a big time critic of Venezuela too.
I don't know why people are so sure that organizations that get a huge portion of their funding from private corporations are 100% trustworthy in every situation.
