Iraqi: "You're asking me to choose between death and cancer."

On CBS Sunday Morning, an Iraqi was interviewed and when asked if life was better now than under Saddam he replied,

"You're asking me to choose between death and cancer. With death, I am dead. With cancer, I am going to die."

He'd said earlier that there is a lack of safety and security and happiness in Iraq.

It was also mentioned this Iraqi man warned his brother away from coming back to Iraq for fear his brother would be killed. This guy was saying people buy and drive clunker cars as a nice car is an invitation to be kidnapped. They have to be careful to not drive around government buildings between 7 and 9am (when most car bombs go off). Driving late at night with a sick child or pregnant wife risks being shot at when approaching checkpoints.

CBS then showed a clip of a little boy hurt when a US Bradley Fighting Vehicle ran into a wall and it fell on the boy. The boy was scared of the soldiers that were trying to tend to him.

They also showed clips of bombed-out schools and debris-littered streets.


The gist being that life under the new Iraqi government/American occupation is bad. Life under Saddam was bad. It's just a bit different in who is in control of the "bad".

i'm tired of all this 'oh we're so SUCCESSFUL over there; we're helping them so much!!" ridiculousness.

It was everywhere. Rumsfeld said it would, anyway.

Recommended, and GLADLY. This, my friends, is only the tip of the iceberg.

We haven't seen but a mere mention...a glimpse...of the truly bad stuff.

As Hersh spoke on 10/19 in NY, military commanders are saying to him that, essentially, it's a genocide going on in the Tal Afar region and we're essentially killing Sunnis to make them more afraid of us than anything else.

that was circulating on the streets of Bahgdad, "Out with the apprentice, in with the master." Kind of sums it up nicely or quite sadly rather.

soon you all wil come to realize like the rest of us that we can't fix it.
That the elections in December will not stop the violenece and in fact may enrage it.
That the bulk of Iraqis don't want us there.
That the only reason to sta is actually to save face where there is none to be saved.
That Iraq is already in the throws of a civil war that is going to get worse no matter what we do.
That there is no large scale humanitarian effort that can be succesfully implemented in Iraq.
That there is no way we can put down the insurgency.
That there is no way to destroy AQ in Iraq.
That there is no way to tell how many thousands of AQ terrorists have gotten the best live combat training in the world.
That there is no way at all to tell where the terrorists are going after they do a tour in Iraq.
That these terrorists are not only a deadly threat to Iraqis and Coalition troops but to us here at home and allies the world over.
That there is no reason to stay on in Iraq when the reasons for the terrorist attacks are because of us.
That the reasons civillians get hurt in the crossfire between insurgents and soldiers is our fault.
That depleted uranium is a WMD.
That women now have less rights than they did under Saddam.
That we use the same torture rooms for torture that Saddam did.
That this list goes on and on and on....

There is NO good enough reason(s) to stay in Iraq. To think that we can still somehow get that country on its feet whilst the entire invasion and occupation is built on lies and war crimes is foolhardy or arrogant at best.
