Another girls' school burnt down in Afghanistan
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200510/s1493992.htm

Another girls' school has been torched in Afghanistan, which is battling insurgents loyal to the ousted fundamentalist Taliban regime that banned education for women, an official has said.

The primary school, 65 kilometres from Kabul in Logar province, was under renovation and the girls were studying in tents, provincial criminal investigation director Qudratullah Arabzai told AFP.

The building, torched late on Saturday, was the fourth to be burnt in the same district since the collapse of the hardline Taliban regime in late 2001, he said.

Four years after the Taliban were removed, school enrollment among girls remains among the lowest in the world, with less than 10 per cent of girls enrolled in secondary schools, according to a UN report this month.

4. US commanders: Afghan National Army still "a long way off"
"Muzzle discipline problem"?????

http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/1031/p01s04-wosc.html

Long-term, the Afghan National Army (ANA) will have to take over the defense of their country, but US military commanders at the ground level say that time is still a long way off. ANA fighters are enthusiastic learners, and they are picking up a great deal of real-life training under American advisers in real missions.

But the ANA still have a disconcerting habit of shooting themselves with their own weapons. "The problem is muzzle discipline,"
says 2nd Lieut. Ben Wisnioski, a commander of an ANA unit based in Qalat. In the week before the elections, Lieutenant Wisnioski lost three ANA soldiers to self-inflicted wounds.

--------
And this (below) info is rather disturbing (same article)..how soon before THIS "tactic" backfires??
----------

"We've had a lot of success with textbook tactics, getting the smallest element engaged, and then using other assets to just pile on," says O'Neal. "The Taliban are more willing to engage with us when we have smaller numbers."

Not Taliban bait
Lt. Col. Mark Stammer, the commander at Forward Operating Base in Qalat, is quick to clarify that the US Army is not using small units as "bait."

7. If we continue to allow the rabid right wing fundy nut-cases to
make our country's laws, women in the USA will only be good for breeding stock. :puke:

First Abortion Rights
Then Contraception
Next Equal Rights with Men
Finally, we'll be treated as second class citizens.

This must be put to a stop NOW!

Our RW Fundies would RULE like the Taliban IF THEY HAD THE POWER. Make no mistake - there's not much different in the philosophies of these to groups. INSANITY ===> Fundamentalist's Religious Practices. :puke:

8. My daughter spent a year of her life serving her country
Away from her son in Afghanistan. And for what? We started to make a difference. What she saw there changed her in many ways. She now hates censorship or fundlementalism of any kind. She says violence begats violence. She saw men with a hand cut off for reasons far more trivial than theivery. She did many female search missions, and saw and smelled, the poor healthcare of women. She says the Afghan people are a great, gentle people who love their families. They've been shit on every way possible. We could have made a real difference. We really could have.
But we had to run over to Iraq to create a catastophic military disaster.
