Ann Coulter is the smartest woman in America.
She knows that if you're willing to dress like a cheap hooker then go on television every night with the wildest, most unbelievable line of bullshit imaginable, people will pay you millions of dollars to do it--because the liberals will watch to see the trainwreck, and the freepers will watch because she's the woman of their dreams.

It's GOT to be an act because no one in their right mind would really believe all the shit she lays down.

So I think she's genuinely insane.

12. No, I'm serious. Her on-screen persona is an act.
I figure she got started the same way John Valby did.

John Valby is a pianist who used to play at Holiday Inns and the like. One night he slipped a real short dirty song into his set; the next night the house was packed, waiting to hear the dirty song. Now all he does is sing dirty songs in bars, and he makes a fortune.

I figure Ann Coulter, who is intelligent enough to graduate cum laude from a reputable law school, noticed when she was just getting started in punditry (back during the Dawn of the Clenis) that the more outlandish her pronouncements, the higher her ratings. What to do? Pump it up, man! Buy yourself a skid of ultra-short skirts and skin-tight tops, sleep with a different guy every night, start chain smoking unfiltered Camels until your voice turns gravelly, swill Chardonnay like it was water, and say any shit that pops into your head no matter whether it's correct, incorrect or even illogical.

23. She graduated cum laude from Cornell (her undergraduate degree)
Edited on Mon Oct-31-05 11:01 PM by Carolab
but I can find no mention of her graduating cum laude from the University of Michigan law school (where she got her JD)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ann_Coulter

Amusing that her undergraduate studies were in Arts & Sciences (hmmm, isn't that LIBERAL arts?)

28. I've told this story before, but it bears repeating here. I used to
work where they dropped off the tapes of PI. A wonderful guy (black) would bring them in. One night I asked him why Bill had Ann Coulter on so much and he said "because Bill really likes her. Hell, I really like her because she's very nice and a lot of fun". He said she's nothing like she appears, so, you're right - it is an act and one that has made her a lot of money, just like Rush. Rush probably doesn't believe half the stuff he says either, but he knows how to push people's buttons on both sides, and that's exactly what Ann is doing. Rush makes more than 10 million a year and I'll bet he sits up many a night thinking of something really outrageous that will piss off one side or the other, and on a good day, both sides.

32. I think she is designed to bait liberals so that they will go bananas
why else would she say that she admires McCarthy and threaten to hit Liberals with a baseball bat.

Get us all whipped up so that they can point at us and call us the party of hate. Maybe something like that?

35. Why? For money, and it works for her. Liberals probably keep
her on TV even more than the rightwing because liberals do get worked up over what she says. The best thing we could do it ignore what she says, not address it.

I think even the braindead zombies on the right are tired of her schtick these days. She would set herself on fire if she thought it would get her more airtime.

I was just reading Yahoo user reviews of "Good Night, And Good Luck."

"Left Wing Smear"
by nueadan (movies profile) Oct 18, 2005

I strive to be "independent" in my political opinions and read/see/hear both sides of the argument. While this film does a fantastic job in its acting, directing and visuals, one can't help but notice that it is hugely biased against McCarthy. According to Ann Coulter, a very pro-Republic social commentator, McCarthy was a pretty great guy for these reasons: 1) there were actually Communist spies in the US gov't at the time and thus he helped us win the cold war 2) he practiced tolerance and acceptance in his office (anything other than white male is clearly, and accurately, considered inferior in the atmosphere depicted in the CBS station of this movie) 3) He passionately served America by being in the armed forces and going to war when he didn't have to.

While I understand I am essentially summarizing someone else without doing the research on this myeself, I just think that people should be aware that there is another side to this story and one shouldn't take this as the end all, be all of accurate, contextual historical fact. And while I would agree that the film takes a critical look at even Murrow himself, he is portrayed as the hero who suffered when in fact McCarthy ended up dying of alcoholism because of what Coulter would probably describe as "a left wing smear on the character of a decent man."

Overall, great, but I'd also like to see a counter movie from McCarthy's point-of-view.

This wasn't the only review echoing the same revisionist history.

16. Is it all a joke
I mean, really, the things she says are too laughable to be actual positions.

The irony is that, if the evangelical right did come to power, really come to power, there would be some freaky "A Handmaid's Tale" neo-Puritanism going on, and they would force Ann Coulter to marry a man who would treat her as his property. Seriously, Ann Coulter's had more pipe laid in her than the Big Dig in Boston.

.... it is all an act. Just like Rush Limbaugh is all an act.

We act surprised when Rush runs straight to a liberal trial lawyer, but it's not because he's a hypocrite per se, it's because he doesn't believe a fucking word he says - it's all for getting the stupider among us to tune in and elevate the Arbitrons.

Same with Coulter and 90% of the rest of the "media personalities".

It's all a big capitalist game to these folks, it never occurs to them that they are wrecking the country to make a buck.
