About Alito and this husband notification thing...
If there is a law, which he supports (supported?) that says that a woman has to tell her husband and basically get his permission to have an abortion, shouldn't it also stand to reason (in twisted, conservative, anti-abortion logic, of course) that a woman should also go all the way and have to notify and ask permission from a boyfriend, rapist, etc.? Is that part of the law? Though I guess someone who feels that this is legal certainly doesn't think any abortion is good and would deny a rape victim a the morning after pill.

Somebody should ask him this.

3. If the inseminator can't be found...
do they have a State Semen Council to which the pregnant woman is supposed to submit a termination request?

Don't be too hard on Alito though. He's very forward thinking. In a number of his writings he's suggested that it's acceptable for women to wear sandals and shoes.

2. Sure, a woman would be required to prove she'd tried.
I think it actually has happened before in parts of the US, though I think it relates to stuff other than abortion. I'm thinking I heard something re: Florida about this, that a woman had to like, put in a public newspaper a description of who she thinks is the father and try to have him come forward. I just forget why. To prove she tried to get child support from the real father? Something like that.

In any case, coming to a state near you.

4. A woman is not required to notify her husband if
(1) her husband is not the father, (2) her husband, after diligent effort, cannot be located, (3) the pregnancy is the result of a spousal sexual assault that has been reported to the authorities, or (4) the woman has reason to believe that notifying her husband is likely to result in the infliction of bodily injury upon her by him or by another individual. In addition, a woman is exempted from the notification requirement in the case of a medical emergency. 18 Pa. Cons. Stat. § 3209 (1990).

From Planned Parenthood v. Casey, 505 US 833 (1992)

5. One of the RW "religious leaders" actually said It's not fair
to punish a rapist by killing his baby.

Can't believe these people are on the same planet I am.

7. I wish I could remember -- could it have been Dobson? The line
stuck with me but the name didn't -- "You can't punish a rapist by killing his baby." The woman figures into that equation NOT AT ALL. Can't even remember where I read this, don't think it was on D.U.

The idea that the life of a sperm is more important than the sanity of a mother of 2 or 3 children just boggles my mind.
