David Gergen
He seems to be well spoken and intelligent.
I know he tilts to the right but he is not afraid to speak candidly.

What's your opinion of him?

1. To me he seems to be a fair commentator
I agree he leans right but he doesn't appear to have drunk the KoolAid in the way of Fred Barnes.

I respect Gergen's comments and take note of them.

3. If he's the same guy I've seen with Matthews and Russert from time
to time, I'd say that he walks lock step with them whenever he's around them.

2. Excellent
He speaks from experience. I rarely get the feeling that he is 'selling' me his idealogy, simply sharing his view. A well informed, well reasoned view.

10. He's good at what he does
and what he does is con Democrats for money.

4. He's not a neo-con.
And although he is a republican, Clinton (who, unlike our current "leader" didn't live in a bubble) had him on his staff. I always wondered if that was his way of avoiding the echo chamber effect.

5. He doesn't tilt to the right...
... he's fallen over on that side.

Gergen is rather desperate to maintain the status quo, on behalf of the ruling class.

No points from me. He's a toady for the people in charge, and he wants them to stay there. I pay very little attention to what he has to say, except to note that he's never very far from exceedingly conventional wisdom, and, very often, quite far away from admitting the truth.

11. It's a shame
because we know he's smart enough to get it and he seems to have some integrity. But you are right, maintaining the status quo is what Gergen is all about.

6. He's a conservative
but has trouble with the extreme elements from time to time.

7. He's a Republican who courts Dems to line his pockets
when things are going bad for his own party. He's a Repub, will always be a Repub. At times, he does seem particularly adept at making Dems feel guilty for absolutely no reason.

8. Politico-for-Hire. Will work for either party if the price is right.
