"I believe men have rights just like women." CSPAN caller on WJ
Good ole boy from Texas proceeded to add that if you are going to give "women control over their bodies, then give men control over their families. That's where we're headed." Stated that this is what Alito will provide. Patriarchy reduxe.

2. I wonder, will corsett's be mandatory "undercoatings"
for women, if the men think so? This is disgusting.

Some days I am glad I only have half my life left. Yeah, okay, I'm not happy today...can ya tell?

all american women have to wear bee keeper suites to show just how christen they are. Time we put uppity women back into the kitchen and out of public view. And they say christen fundies are not like their Muslim cousins.

23. Well, except for the ones that wear the fishnet stockings and carry riding
crops to help a little with the good old boy's boredom, if ya know what I mean.

This is very much part of the whacked out Republican's problems. They are the ones who simply could NOT adjust to the emancipation of women. We are chattel and they are our lords.

9. We'll have to start carrying lace hankies and vials of ammonia
in case we get "the vapors."

When "in a delicate condition" a woman will of course not be expected to stock shelves at Wal-Mart or scrub toilets in the local motel.

If the Conservatives want to make the blastocele the most important stage of the human life, they better figure out how they're going to pay for it. Cutting back on food stamps and student loans ain't going to do it.

17. Those blastocysts vote Republican, ya know
What's really funny is that the most extreme crazies can't distinguish between a microscopic organism and a living, breathing, post-birth human being.

While doing escort volunteer work at a clinic, these nutjobs (and yes, they were nutjobs going by what they were yelling) poured all their abuse at us until a patient showed up. Then the vitriol turned on them.

One of the strangest things I was hearing was that no one should ever let me hold a baby, I might forget that it's already born and stick a knife into it.

I had to bite my lip to keep from laughing out loud.

I braved Operation Rescue for a routine physical, these crazies are harmless in comparison.

By the way, the women got the "vapors" because their corsets were so tight they couldn't breathe.

3. When men can become pregnant
Just like women can, then we can talk.

But until that time, let's just say that women have control over what happens in their own bodies. It's worked well so far.

14. It's worked well since the 'seventies. I was around in the 'fifties,
and I can assure you, back then it was not working well at all.

Two of my friends were brothers orphaned by a botched amateur abortion. Too many young kids "had to get married" trapping a young father-to-be in a dead-end job.

Think we need a movie about how it was. Wonder what Clooney is doing right now. or Jane Campion. hmmm.

25. Do Men Need Permission From Their Wives..
Edited on Tue Nov-01-05 09:20 AM by Ravenseye
..to get a vasectomy? Can a man make a choice about his body, which would seriously affect his families reproductive choices, without even notifying his wife?

Seems to me like Men have a few freedoms regarding their bodies that Women just don't.

30. You're absolutely right.
And I'll take it a step further:

- Do men need their wives' permission to undo a vasectomy?

- Do men need their wives' permission to start using, or discontinue use of, Viagra?

Thank god I did not have a father who had to be "in control" of his family. My sibs and I haven't had to spend our lives getting over father abuse, like so many people I know.

5. When I can decide if a man gets treated for prostate
cancer, if he is deserving of heart surgery, if that little lump he has found in his scrotum is worthy of federal research dollars.
Then we're even.
When all over due child support payments are paid in full.
Then we are even.
When I can tell a man that he is not worthy of (name your prophets) love because of his gender, and control religious debate in this manner.
Then we are even.
And when a man can get pregnant,
Then we are even.

20. btw
Women owe child support, too. At a higher rate than men.

And breast cancer research is funded higher than prostate cancer or testicular cancer research.

So you might want to drop those from your rant.

But then, your last line shows that we'll never be "even", whatever that means. So I guess it doesn't matter, really.

21. Actually, reviewing state by state most wanted
deadbeat parents, in number of parents and dollars owed, men far out number women.
A Veterinarian has been appointed to oversee womens health issues by the Bush Admin.....That nod of contempt from Bush speaks volumes by itself.
And no, we will never be even.
Fundies are attacking the reasoning of using certain drugs that show promise in treating cervical cancer because treating this form of cancer promotes promiscuity.

22. The Astroturfing Of C-SPAN Continues
I'm surprised they brought the President of N.O.W. on...but of course to frame the SCOTUS discussion as to how this organization was going to obstruct the nomination...putting Gandy in the negative from the get-go.

I'm calling this SCOTUS fiasco...and it's still far from over...as Schaivo II. The fundie right wingers showed their cards again...when a "reasonable" candidate like Miers (and we need not hash that she had NO qualification) is shunned for someone more religious/draconian...it's starting to get noticed.

People might not like abortion, but as much as they hate "activist judges" saying what they can do, they hated hundreds of times more when they say what they can't do. The stridency of the right wing attacks and now turnabouts are being noted by the indenpendents and moderates...this isn't uniting the base, it's just creating reasons for more Repugnicans to wonder who really runs their corrupt party and is it worth it to vote and support it.

26. Attitudes like this led me to two things....
...and I'm not advocating this is any solution and certainly not for everyone:

1. Don't EVER get married (never again...)
2. Don't have kids (easy for me 'cause I never wanted any).

THAT WAY, NO MAN can control me or my life - at least not in those ways. It seems if you get married or have kids, you're automagically a man's property (ie: his 'family'). It shouldn't be that way but in this country, it is and soon to be moreso.

No thanks.

I am not property. I will not allow myself to be treated as such. The problem with these Neanderthals is that they are not always obvious at first glance. It is not as if you can (really) say all men who drive pickups are redneck, right-wing assholes. Of course I also live in Texas and I know that a good proportion of them are. Also a large proportion on non-pickup truck drivers. I wish they would wear buttons identifying themselves so I could avoid meeting them. I have to say that I actively avoid seeing anyone who labels themselves conservative for the very reason that they will likely turn out to be an idiot like the caller above. Of course I once dumped someone who believed he had some say in whether or not I cut my hair, so I may be touchier than most.

If he has a family, the only reason he started one was so he could have someone to boss around.

Does America?
