The Senate Secret Session and the link to Frank Rich's column and Libby
In Sunday's NYTimes, Frank Rich wrote the following:

<snip>
The other investigation into prewar intelligence, by the Senate Intelligence Committee, is a scandal in its own right. After the release of its initial findings in July 2004, the committee's Republican chairman, Pat Roberts, promised that a Phase 2 to determine whether the White House had misled the public would arrive after the presidential election. It still hasn't, and no wonder: Murray Waas reported Thursday in The National Journal that Mr. Cheney and Mr. Libby had refused to provide the committee with "crucial documents," including the Libby-written passages in early drafts of Colin Powell's notorious presentation of W.M.D. "evidence" to the U.N. on the eve of war.

As soon as I read this, I wondered why the Dems had not jumped all over it. Maybe it took the National Journal and Frank Rich to bring it to their attention.

3. No. It's more likely that they were waiting for Fitzgerald. Had they gone
after this in a big political showdown, the GOP and their RW media machine would have spun the politics and likely tainted the investigation. That's how they work. Dems are getting better at not acting reflexively every time they are baited.

5. I hope you are right, blm
I had not heard about the refusal to turn over documents before, though, had you?

And I don't hear Roberts talking about it now (nor will we, I suspect).

6. Some of us have been on the Roberts issue for many months already.
I said his role in the coverup should be a focus for Fitzgerald, too.

8. none that I've seen. But this week could change that.
Lord knows enough of us kept on this for quite awhile now. I was worried that the story was not going to break through.

4. The bastard Roberts is on right now...
"We will spend as much time as possible in the next 4-5 days to complete Phase II."

AS IF it can be done in "4 or 5 days"!

Reid said they've been waiting since the commitment IN WRITING was made in JULY, 2004. HOW MANY SOLDIERS HAVE DIED SINCE THEN??

"Work in a bipartisan fashion"

"as we had planned to do"

"my friends across the aisle are people of good faith"

"whether public statements, etc., on Iraq, were substantiated by intelligence information"

We shall see. And if you're lying--as you probably are--I hope they bitch-slap YOU, too, Roberts.
