Could Capitol Hill Blue be right about Andy Card???
<http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_7606.shtml>

This is two days old so I may have missed it being discussed and/or dismissed here, but this is the first mention I've heard of this:

"The war erupted into full-blown shout fests at Camp David this past weekend where decorum broke down in staff meetings and longtime aides threatened to quit unless Rove goes. Insiders say Chief of Staff Andrew Card now leads the anti-Rove legions and has told Bush that he wants out of the high-pressure job."

Anyone heard a hint of this anywhere else? We didn't believe CHB about Bush before, is it looking more credible these days?

1. Bush can't manage his staff...does anyone think he is in charge of his
pResidency?

This should provide insight as to how incompetent and incapable he is to fix his own house, let alone deal with this nation's problems.

So, who really is in charge these days?

2. I have heard about this.
I think Tweety brought it up.

3. Don't know about CHB
but Card has always had problems with Rove. I remember after the first "election" Card was quite blunt in an Esquire article about his displeasure with Rove keeping all the power.

4. CHB is interesting...
Everyone says "not credible" but they sure put up the most tantalizing articles, plus, I dont recall CHB ever being "wrong" - more like just unverified.

5. No doubt Rove has many enemies within the White House.
I've read that Andy Card hates him, as does Karen Hughes.

Rove didn't get to be as powerful as he is without making enemies.

6. There's probably a kernel of truth to it
We know from other sources that Bush is becoming more angry and unhinged, that WH staffers are starting to question off the record whether Rove should be let go, and that Rove and Card have a rocky relationship. Like a lot of Thompson's "scoops", it's probably one part truth, one part tabloidesque embellishment, and three parts Washington gossip.

7. Card ultimatum to Bush? Get rid of Rove OR make me Treasury Sec.
There have been numerous stories about rumors that Card wants to leave WH and become Secretary of Treasury. However, if Bush gets rid of Rove, clearly Card would have seniority to take over Rove's duties/position, and we know Bush is totally dependent on surrounding himself with long-time people who have proved their loyalty to Bush. So no way would Bush give up both Rove and Card from the WH staff at the same time. I wonder if Card has given Bush a choice, and Card is leaking the rumors that he (Card) wants to go to Treasury, to keep the pressure on Bush to dump Rove. Skilled negotiators know that (1) you never give an ultimatum unless you're prepared to follow through on it and (2) you always give a deadline with the ultimatum, i.e., get rid of Rove in 10 days or (fill in the ultimatum).

9. But isn't Card Rove's superior now?
At least on paper. Isn't Rove an Assistant Chief of Staff?

But I've heard rumors that Card wants out. Heck, his name was bandied about as a candidate for Governor when Mittens Romney runs for President. Some right-wingers even floated his name as candidate for Governor here in Maine although Card only has a summer home here.

8. I'd say 78% is right on.
"Senior aides describe Bush as increasingly “edgy” or “nervous” or “unfocused.” They say the President goes from apparent coherent thought one moment to aimless rambles about political enemies and those who are “out to get me.”

Tis rather obvious that junior is in a fog when doing a public appearance.

10. It makes sense.
I've always believed that there were decent people in the WH. And wondered if Rove's lowlife dirty tricks bothered them. I'm sure that's been the case. You don't love everyone you work with. There are always a few people you can't stand. I bet there are people in the WH who despise him more than we do...if that's possible.

I truly believe that at this point nothing they do will help. Bush is going down and whether he keeps Rove or lets him go isn't going to change anything. It's win/win for us.

Just like the war Bush created...it's a disaster whether we stay or leave.
