WP: "George Bush may have a presidency now that is moving from embattled
to dysfunctional"

My favorite sentence in recent coverage. The fact that it's reprinted in today's Salt Lake Tribune, in one of the reddest of all states, is also nothing to scoff at

1. It's been disfunctional way longer than it's been embattled
It was disfunctional in 2001. Back when PDB's weren't even read.

3. true -- but not so acknowledged in the press. That's what's new.
Plus "Dysfunctional" as in HE CANNOT GOVERN is a relatively new perception out there. That's what happens when your poll numbers are consistently in mid 30s and you lose all your clout.

5. The widespread perception that...
Edited on Fri Nov-04-05 12:32 PM by Mr_Jefferson_24
...Dubya's unfit to govern does seem to be taking hold. This will be very difficult for his handlers to counter. There's literally nothing, after five years in office, for them to point to as a substantive BushCo success, and the huge failure of the Iraq war is not going away. You can't spin Freddy Kruger showing up at your teenage daughter's 16th birthday party as a good development---this is roughly what Dubya's handlers are faced with.

6. Nice article
I like this line too:
- or at least a press less influenced by artifice -

As well as the ending:
George W. Bush's current troubles offer perhaps a final chance to mature as a nation and to understand we must ask more of our leaders than a television screen filled with reassuring images while the hard work of actual governing lapses into disuse and decay.

8. Its like driving drunk....(Bush should know this..)
When your driving drunk on a familiar road, you can get by.
FAMILIAR ROAD - Basking in the glow of a stolen election when you are still popular with your base.

When your driving drunk on an un-familiar road, your fooked.
UNFAMILIAR ROAD - Swimming through a cesspool of lies, scandals, poor poll numbers, and a war that is the new Vietnam.
