This isn't a good sign for the republicans. Does this signal the end for Karl Rove?

5. Probably the loyalists who think Junior will "get his mojo back."
People who don't see that the last few drops of blood have been squeezed out of this turnip.

Bush's "political capital?" That and a buck will get you a cuppa coffee.

Followers of Lush Limburger, Bull O'Really, Joe Scarface. You know, the portion of society that proves that 'bottom of the barrel' is only indicative of the worst until you realize what's UNDER it.

7. All of these polls ignore what people think of their own Congressman/woman
Sure 55% want Dem control of COngress, but do they want to send their Repub one home? Most of the polls I have seen on here say people are not happy overall but still like their own rep just fine.

16. In many ways this is actually more important.
This is a much broader question, and it's more telling about whether someone is liable to vote for a Democrat or a Republican, in general, without regard to the individual nature of the race.

And the numbers themselves are unbelievably in our favor.

8. It's encouraging, but nothing to hang a hope on
Unseating an entrenched member of Congress is just slightly more difficult than it was to unseat a member of the Politburo in the old SovUnion.

It's going to take *monumental* effort to shed these bastards in '06, and that effort, by definition, is not national. It will have to be closely coordinated with horseloads of money.

As Democrats, do we have both in abundance?

12. Bush's approval below 50% in 54 states
Check out this state-by-state poll. Bush's approval rating is above 50% in only 6 states.

I sent this poll to Alabama Public Television, and the host of the evening news program brought it up last Friday night. If more of us passed it along we could show that the country is not nearly as Red as is generally assumed.

Yes, it is a mistake, but it is not a typo. Do you suppose there could be a problem with my new Diebold keyboard?

18. These polls are wothless
The fact of the matter is that nobody gets to vote for a Democratic Congress or a Republican Congress, all they do is get to vote for their incumbent representative or a challenger -- if there IS a challenger, which there often isn't.

At this point, there are only going to be around thirty competitive races, compared to around a hundred competitive races in 1994. The vast majority of incumbents are either running unopposed or will face token opposition. Political gerrymandering has resulted in most districts having being overwhemlingly Democratic or overwhelmingly Republican, so anyone expecting a major Democratic landslide along the lines of 1994 is engaging in wishful thinking.
