The United States has joined other human rights abusers.
Edited on Mon Nov-07-05 12:57 AM by Neil Lisst
The story of the CIA secret prisons is HUGE everywhere in the world but the USA. If you ever wondered if the US mainstream media is literally and figuratively owned, you need only look at the short attention given this story in the USA.

This story is big in Canada, big everywhere thinking people judge human rights abuser.

Here is our comment on it for today:

Would like to hear your comments on the topic or the political cartoon regarding the topic.

1. USA Has Been Human-Rights Abusers Since Forever.
They will not protect transgender people like me against employment discrimination, and they are trying to make it illegal for gay people to marry the person they love.

As far as I am concerned, both of these practices are forms of human-rights abuses.

6. those are human rights issues, too
However, I was thinking about the prisons in the news where people are shipped off in secret to other countries and tortured in the name of national security.

10. Yeah
But we tend to think most of the issues that directly impact US...and for me, the issue that most directly impacts ME...and negatively....is employment discrimination. In a way, by not allowing me to earn a living, this country is subjecting me to a slow torture, and eventual death of my spirit, and eventually, death of my physical self, because I will no longer be able, financially, to sustain even the most basic of survival necessities.

2. Why is the guy wearing a baseball cap on /Jeopardy/?
I don't think I've ever seen that on the real show.

I can't think of a reason they would put his face in the shadows either.

Otherwise the cartoon is pretty good.

3. He's Neil Lisst. It's his schtick.

We never show his eyes or his face clearly.

His name is Neil Lisst, because he's a nihilist. Neil is a darker figure which we use as needed to address some topics. He's a vehicle, and we weave personal tidbits into him. He always wears a cap, and we don't see him clearly. Why? Because it's his words that matter.

5. Yes, to answer your question ...

We publish at this site online ...

http://www.webcomicsnation.com/neillisst
where we have over 60 daily comics up over the past 8 weeks.

We are currently being republished in Germany and Israel, as well.

We have been read in 73 countries, and are averaging 5000-7500 pageviews a day.

My partner on this project is a Canadian. He wrote me two days ago and wanted us to do something about American Gulags, and this is what I wrote yesterday, and he drew today. We slid it into the schedule because it's timely.

7. this wealthy government has permitted its poor to live hand to mouth
And it plots against the basic human rights of its citizens. Our tax dollars have been used to fund military protection of NATO, while our citizens have had no health insurance. The Democrats have tried, but unfortunately they are opposed by very rich and powerful forces.

The right-wing of the US government has ALWAYS been against human rights inside the country. One wonders if the international community is only now taking notice because it threatens them.

8. Human rights are many and varied.
The fact is, in most civilized countries in the world, people have more freedom and more rights than in the USA.

9. Wanna play Jeopardy? Human Rights Jeopardy?
Edited on Mon Nov-07-05 09:23 AM by Neil Lisst
Today we look at the US and human rights.

Remember when we used to be the ones who stood AGAINST human rights violators?
