USA Today's Math On Bush Approval --- Help Me On This!
This was in USA Today & now can't find the link. As you know IE doesn't have Tabs. Anyway, I can not figure out their math. Do not remember Bush being at 90% and how does 12 points drop him to around 40%. I know maybe a little too much wine or beer but I keep missing how they are going here.

"Bush's public approval, at 90% in the USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll four years ago, has dropped a dozen points since his re-election and has hovered around 40% since August. Democrats and independents, without whom he wouldn't have won, have deserted him in droves; his remaining support is little more than the Republican Party base."

Edited on Tue Nov-08-05 09:48 PM by Skittles
to think about how easily fooled the American people were - bush was on vacation and failed to do anything about warnings, then sat in a classroom while people jumped out of the towers - and the American people rallied around him.....just sickening

3. the 90% was right after 9/11; the 12 point drop was from the election
very shifty of usa today, but he went from 90%(around 9/11/01) to around 52%(11/04) to around 40%(today).

4. His approval rating on election day straddled 50%
Slightly above or below depending on the poll. So 12% is about right. Perhaps slightly more in other polls.

After 9/11 in late 2001 Bush was at his approval apex. I don't remember 90% in a specific poll but it was extremely high. We won both the NJ and VA gov races while he had those huge approval numbers. Bush chose not to campaign in those races, supposedly because it would have been inappropriate in a post 9/11 atmosphere.

5. Put down the beverage.
They are saying that his approval is down 12 points since a year ago. He was at 90% approval right after 9/11. Those of us who were in the 10% of Americans who disapproved can assume that we are some of the smartest people in the land. So scary it's time to drink.

that every time Bush opens his mouth, he approval goes down 1%.
