Ok, Dems we are getting good news tonight, however....
I'm just as proud of Tim Kaine and Jon Corzine as anybody, but we still have lots of work to do. Tomorrow we gotta wake up and still be as hurt and as hungry as we were on the day after last year's election. We got big races in the House and Senate coming up in the midterms. We still have 3 years of momentum to build so we don't end up with another Republican president. Let's celebrate, but don't pat ourselves on the back too much. I remember how bad things looked for Bush after Abu Ghraib and so on. I thought Kerry had him at one point. Nearly for sure. One thing we can't ever afford to do is think that because of all these scandals, low poll ratings, Iraq going to hell, Privatizing SS getting laughed at that Dems can just get by and win because the other side is so bad. We need to fight, continue building support and start winning the big races in the big years. If we whip ass in '06, '08 and '10 well then we'll really be changing things.

A movement doesn't happen overnight and it doesn't stay strong just because the other side is going down in flames. We need to be strong ourselves. If we build a base and gain ground and start winning consistently over the course of the next 8 years, then we can knock all of this Republican shit back forever. Well, at least for a long time. But, yes, tonight is a great night. However, tomorrow is a new day and a new fight.

11. now that is really disappointing
Ohio is a big one. Especially since DeWine is vulnerable and we know Brown or Hackett can beat him. But, if a race is close then the voting machines will make the call, and we can't afford to allow that to keep happening. You got that right. Good point.

20. No he didn't....
All four state issues went down big in Cuyahoga County....

Uf we are going to be serious about reinvigurating the democratic base, stop blaming Diebold for losses....

21. all four went down?
That's a good sign. Cuyahoga County is one of the most important counties in the country for Dems in a Presidential election.

Hey, if anybody knows the score on all this it's definitely you.

25. Cuyahoga Still uses the old style voting, paper ballots....
My point was the four state issues that lost, all having to do with campaign reform, lost big in democratic cuyahoga and there was no diebold to blame it on....

It might pass if on the ballot again in 2006, and I know it will be.... this was a test run for the initiative... The people behind the four issues did not have their political ducks in order... No support for either party, just token support from some democratic quarters..

The issues were poorly written and were very confusing to the common people...

I voted for three of the issues, but did not any of them to win...

Perhaps it will inspire us, knowing that we're capable of winning elections again.

4. We must work towards majorities next year.
We must get at least:
51 Senate Seats
218 House Seats
26 Governorships
Increase our share State Houses (50/50) right now.

15. it's a tall order for sure
at the very least, we need to make significant progress towards that. Senate and House will be tough. No doubt. But it can be done. Lots of tough work ahead. Tonight was a good start. We need to work on Ohio, big time.

17. True, but YOU are a TALL Wetzelbill.
I am a TALL calimary.

EVERYBODY here is TALL, and up to the challenge. And we all stand tall tonight, too. Let's not let this tempt us to become complacent. The BIG ENCHILADA is NEXT November, and we HAVE TO go ALL OUT. Because if we get the House of Reps back, we can begin IMPEACHMENT proceedings!!!!

THAT is Priority One, folks.

So let's use this as something foundational that we can build upon. Because what we now have, with this, is MORE MOMENTUM. The bush-rove spin and the sending of the dauphin to put his personal endorsement and his own political capital and his reputation and his name behind the loser in Virginia had all eyes on him, all over the country, to see if he has any coattails left, if he's gonna pull this one out, if he's gonna make a comeback, if he's gonna hit another lucky streak and go back to the good old mow-'em-down days of his first horrid term. There was a LOT at stake here, in terms of PERCEPTION. ALL the pundits except for those in the deepest and most transparent denial will be spinning this as a clear loss for bush. Especially in Virginia. And believe me, those in the GOP in the strategy department and in the I'm-up-for-reelection-next-November department are going to be sweating bullets. If they're smart, they'll read the tea leaves left over from tonight and deduce correctly that they're better without bush than with him, and you just watch them start to pull away. You just watch them start to push back when the White House thugs try to arm-twist 'em in Congress. You watch what kind of reception cheney's gonna get the next time he tries to muscle 'em into giving him his precious torture loophole.

There may even be people pulling out the soundbite of bush answering the question - "how much political capital do you still have, what with everything that's gone on lately" - and he replied "PLENTY." Plenty of NOTHING, jackass!!! Plenty of NOTHING!!!!

Now, OUR job is to drive that home. Shove it down their throats. Give them enemas of it up their asses. Do a C-section or colonoscopy or arthroscopic surgery on some joint or something, and insert it there, too. DO NOT LET THEM FORGET IT. DO NOT LET THEM CATCH THEIR BREATH. DO NOT LET THEM REGROUP. DO NOT LET THEM PICK THEMSELVES UP AND GET BACK IN THE GAME. It's on OUR terms now. And don't you forget it.

Now it's WE DEMOCRATS who have the political capital. Let's not squander it!!!

I start first thing in the morning, myself...

23. You betcha, my friend!
ONWARD! We delivered a MAJOR LEAGUE ONE-TWO PUNCH (yes, I realize I'm mixing metaphors here) tonight, in those two high-profile governors' races. We're two for two! ESPECIALLY sweet since bush put his own balls on the line for Kilgore, sweeping in there at the last minute, draping himself all over the lectern, slurring his words, mumbling stupid, lightweight jokes about taking laura to exotic locations for their anniversary... FUCK HIM.

This night is the first night of his official status as a LAME DUCK. Gotta say, george, you sure know how to spend that political capital! You've run through it in the same drunken-sailor (or is that drunken-bushie) way you did with our national surplus, our standing in the world community, what used to be the honor behind our word, AND oh, a little more than two THOUSAND needlessly squandered American lives... Nice work, ASSHOLE...

22. Is there really even a "movement" yet
above and beyond "kick the bums out"? Seems to me we're ready to rip each other to shreds once that's done, or does itself. Sorry for the pessimism, but I think I'm supporting your point.

27. well yeah
if just kicking them out is the goal then we'll never be cohesive enough to do it. We didn't last year. So there needs to some unity, their needs to be broad support on certain issues. Easier said then done. But, it can be done. We'll see.

24. Election problems? Report them here- important
The election problems aren't over- the system is still a mess. so it important to monitor and be active in preventing corrupt practices.
Here's how:

If you experience any problem casting your ballot -- finding the polling place, voter intimidation, accessibility issues, voting machine problems, provisional ballot
issues, etc. -- or you witness anyone having voting problems, please immediately
call 1-866-OUR-VOTE to report the problem. Please let others know too... the same number works nationwide.

Verified Voting Foundation volunteers and staff have developed a new version of the "Election Incident Reporting System" (EIRS) to record all problems reported to 1-866-OUR-VOTE. Since 2004, hundreds of organizations and thousands of individuals in the United States have used EIRS to help protect our right to vote and assure that every vote is counted as cast. If you'd like to know more about
EIRS, please visit VerifiedVotingFoundation.org and Voteprotect.org

28. Completely Agreed
We as a party need to not celebrate too much in that we have to prepare for the 06 election. Now is the time to try to start building the momentum needed to win in 06. Now is the time for the Democratic candidates to start putting their ideas forward.

31. Agreed... not to make too fine a point, if only Kerry MENTIONED
Abu Ghraib at least once in the debates and few times on the campaign trail....

Apparently, there was a rule in Kerry's campaign that the policies of TORTURE under this administration was never ever to be mentioned.

I'm just saying that running a campaign by being mealy mouthed on controversial issues, or by dancing a kabuki ain't gonna cut it ever again in this political landscape.

Candidates have to know this going in and have an inherent willingness to fight back and the courage to back it up with conviction and straight talk.

32. don't be afraid to call a rat a rat...
Dems get beat because we get Swift Boated, Willie Hortoned and smeared and queered to death. The Republicans give us more than enough ammo to come back at them, but Dems are too timid to do so. Worried about being called "liberal", worried about looking weak on Defense, about having our patriotism questioned. We could nail Republicans to the wall with all kinds of stuff. Look at how crazy the Republican Convention was, I mean Zell Miller had one foot in the asylum he was so over the top looney. Accusations, lies, what gall they had. But....... it worked. Dems need to get pissed off and start cracking skulls. Period.
