I'm one of those women for whom a name never leaves - that is, if you leave me with an impression. I tend not to forget those types. You, AMERICANPATRIOTEAGLE, a Republican troll on DU once, twice, then out, are one such name.
I write this not to flame, nor enliven debate, but only to underscore a point I made in a post some months ago: winning an election means little without a true mandate from the people. Does that sound too perfunctory? Here, let me rephrase in a way you might understand: the new pick-up truck don't work if it got no gas, understand? To whit: Rove's new 2004 pick-up wasn't much of a ride, and Bush still hasn't learned how to work the pedals.
Do you now understand?
Alas, AMERICAN, do you not remember your response? You wrote that all Rove needed to do is get Bush in office. That was all. Perhaps you believed that simply staying in office meant Bush maintained control of the agenda (the establishment of a New Conservative Era!) but you didn't elaborate.
Frankly my dear Jethro, you were dead wrong.
How can a president crystallize his second term with approval ratings below 40 percent? Perhaps maintaining residence at the White House is a nice luxury, those fancy black-tie parties and all, but Bush still has his own Republican Party to maintain. And quite frankly again, my dear Jethro, the party's grown stale - fast.
Social Security? A no-show. Terry Schiavo? A freak show. Katrina? A horror tale. The CIA leak? A quiz show where Republicans lost big.
And need I mention the recurring drama in the Middle East? That's a storyline that needs closure - and fast.
So what has another election begotten Karl and George, other than an extension to their tenure (2001-present)? I contend that it has won the American people a reward that it justly deserves: the truth exposed and a destructive group of people truly embarrassed before its eyes.
This administration no longer stands to gain from remaining in office. They might as well shut the hood and thumb a ride to the next town. This thing won't run no more.
So, my dear AMERICANPATRIOTEAGLE, while you sob in your pickup following tonight's Democratic victories in New Jersey and Virginia, and when you look ahead to likely Democratic victories in 2006, do you ask yourself if yet another C+ showing by Bush was good enough?
I didn't think so.
Hey, I'd give you a ride home, but I have a celebration to attend. Maybe you can thumb a ride.
Yours,
Writer of DemocraticUnderground.
