I am so proud of my state (Maine) this morning
For the third time in my lifetime, the forces of bigotry and discrimination have tried to overturn a bill to protect the rights of homosexuals in this state. The previous two times in the 90's were succesful by large margins. This time the "people's veto" was rejected by Maine voters by a nearly 10% margin. We've finally grown up and recognized that all people deserve equal rights.

Thank you, Maine. You've made me proud today. :yourock:

7. This was the first thing I checked for news this morning.
I'm proud too. Though I figured it would turn out this way. Mainers have a very "live and let live" attitude, and that just doesn't square with bigotry. Still, even knowing this, as a bisexual, I am relieved this morning.
Any gays in Texas feel like moving today, it's safe up here!

Well, I'm disappointed in the results from Texas (though I'm not surprised).

But excellent news from Maine! Your state reaffirmed the basic right to treat the citizens of Maine as equals...regardless of sexual orientation.
