Today I'm VERY Proud Of My Adopted Home State. MAINE!
A yes vote on Question 1 would have repealed a law that protects Gay/Lesbian rights! A NO vote would support the law.

No won with about 56+% of the vote!

ChicaAzul and I are heterosexual Roman Catholics who proudly stand with the Gay/Lesbian community against the hate mongering of the religious right. Today we are very proud of our adopted home state.

MAINE RULES!

1. Some of my best times were spent in Maine
Went to school there in the sixties, lounged on Kennebunk Beach and Kennbunkport, long before it became what it is today.

The people there do not take kindly to meanness, nor do they appreciate being told what to believe. Tough folks, and today, yes, you have every reason to be proud.

"As Maine goes, so goes the nation."

Congratulations!

3. No, Mainers Do NOT Take Kindly To Meanness!
We have been here for 3+ years. I'm White, ChicaAzul is Puerto Rican and our little boy is African American.

I have had more grief from within MY OWN FAMILY about our varied ethnicity than we have in this 98% white state.

We stood up to **'s never thaught a day in her life sec. of "ejamacation" when she bullied PBS about a lesbian saying "HI, Buster, come on in!" to a cartoon bunny. Maine PBS showed the episode when we DEMANDED it!

Last night, we showed the religious right that we aren't buying what they're selling!

And hopefully, so to will go the nation!

6. That would be a great Dem slogan in every state - Democrats don't take
kindly to meanness.

So simple, yet once you hear it - it will stick.

2. I love Maine
And I'm a Southern boy, through and through. I dream of the day when NC will pass non-discrimination laws to protect gay and lesbian people. Any day now, as they say....

4. It CAN Happen!
Once upon a time, not so long ago, Maine was one of the most reliably red states in the union.

The truth WILL rise again!

5. My marriage has been ruined already!
NOT!

I love Maine. I have known a dozen gay people here and not one of them threatened my marriage nor had an agenda!

8. Not Only That!

ChicaAzul & I have met many Gay & Lesbian adoptive parents through the adoption agency we dealt with to get our son.

Without exception, we've found them to be loving, nurturing and caring parents. In short, the exact antithesis of what little rickey santorum and his ilk say!

9. Once Upon a Time Conservative,...
...but not so much anymore.

We were one of the states that went for Kerry by a wider margin than we went for Gore!

11. Actually, I meant that in
a good way. I went camping through Maine for the first time this summer after Labor Day and I just think of Mainers as wanting to conserve the Environment and they see the republican party isn't cutting it for them anymore.

I'm really glad to see this about Maine "preserving civil rights"!

12. You Are Right, zidzi!
Preserving the rights of all citizens is a pretty good value, liberal OR conservative.

Unfortunately, the conservatives just don't seem to believe in THAT value!
