WH trying to force changes to McLIEllan press conference transcript!

There is a brewing controversy about what exactly was said at the White House press conference on October 31. Everyone agrees NBC’s Dick Gregory said this:

Q Whether there’s a question of legality, we know for a fact that there was involvement. We know that Karl Rove, based on what he and his lawyer have said, did have a conversation about somebody who Patrick Fitzgerald said was a covert officer of the Central Intelligence Agency. We know that Scooter Libby also had conversations.


Congressional Quarterly and FNS both transcribed Press Secretary Scott McClellan’s answer as “That’s accurate.” The White House transcript lists McClellan’s answer as “I don’t think that’s accurate.”

If you listened to the clip, it’s clear McClellan says “that’s accurate.” Nevertheless, the White House is trying to get CQ and FNS to change their transcripts. They’ve refused.

It is just about too late in human history for anyone to get away with such an Orwellian manuever. The instantaneous transfer, replication, and storage of information is making that less and less possible every day.
As proven by this very article.

Hopefully this will be the last administration to go down in history as such bald fabricators.

who would never be allowed into a WH press room, because a.) he's thoughtful and progressive, and b.) he never starred in any porn.

19. He is, Dick is the ACTIVIST comedian, who went through a
Carlin-esque transformation. He started out doing a slightly darker version of Cosby, but now he is much more than a jokester.

David Gregory is one of the "STRETCH" reporters attached to the WH pool (there are two with that nickname, owing to their height--the Monkey must have run out of ideas). A sharp, silverhaired charmer, the speaker of PERFECT French to Chirac (which pissed the Monkey off no end), a nice Jewish lad, he makes his mamma proud (and most of America, too, since he was one of the first to get up off his ass and toss some shit at the Monkey).

11. I don't know if this is related,
but the White House video of the press conference is basically unwatchable. VERY slow, glitches, freezes up after a couple minutes. I ended up going to C-Span's site and the video was much better. Coincidence, or conspiracy? (Or incompetance, always a popular third choice w/this bunch).

...and he absolutely said "that's accurate." There's no way in hell I would have transcribed that as "I don't think that's accurate." I'd probably get sued by somebody if I did.

ed. ... Although it certainly doesn't make much sense for Scotty to be agreeing with everything that David's saying, unless he just momentarily lapsed out of lying mode.

If they just said he miss-spoke and meant to say "thats NOT accurate" but simply mixed up his thought... heck even I would beleve that. I seriously doubt he meant to say what he did...

But tying to change the ranscript of a press confrence recorded by various outlets? thats just plain stupid. I would suspect a distraction tactic but under the cercumstances I find it incredubly unlikely.

Just plain stupid. Breaks every rule of crisis response. Complete idiots.

Sorry, but Gregory seems to stop in mid sentence as Scott says, "That's Naccurate," and Scott's head moves side to side. If the White House has a tape that shows this one was edited, we'll look stupid making a big deal of this one.
