Ok. Enough "predictions" of '08 candidates - I think it's unnecessary
Hi guys,

Look, I'm NOT even thinking about '08. We just won a major win yesterday for '05, and I'm already looking ahead to '06. As a matter of fact, I started talking to my parents about the next candidates for Governor of Colorado for next year. We have *ONE* Democrat that declared candidacy and that's the former District Attorney Bill Ritter. There's also a Draft Hickenlooper (Denver mayor) process to encourage him to run for Governor because he did a superb job here in Denver. There's also talk of Andrew Romanoff (my state rep) throwing his hat in. All three are excellent candidates, but unless they declare, I'm stuck with Bill Ritter. We've got loonies on the other side, such as Marc Holtzman and Beauprez that we need to make sure they don't win (or at least have Marc the Unknown win the primary). Colorado Democrats have majorities on both House and Senate here in Colorado, and we want to deliver a Democratic Governor that will be progressive, experienced and able to deliver what the people of Colorado asks for. Remember Dick Lamm, Remember Roy Romer - they were excellent Democratic Governor.

What I'm saying is that the '08 elections is now less than three years away, just focus on the next year's elections and stay on course. If we jump too far ahead to '08, then we lose that we worked for. Howard Dean had it right - we need to build up the grassroots here and we have managed to do VERY successfully last year and this year. Your job, whether you like it or not, is to help build the grassroots and protect the Democratic people and our Democracy. We all know that Chimp's political capital is now digging deeper in debt and will go even deeper as he becomes more and more unpopular each waking day. We need to follow Dean's examples and deliver what we need to do - a Democratic majority in the House and the Senate and make sure it stays progressive, honest, and full of integrity. Yes, it's time to dump the DINOs such as Lieberman and Biden and take the time to deliver true Democrats who wants to give the people what they are looking for *WITHOUT* being beholden to corporations.

We have a lot of work to do, so let's forget the '08 candidates, and stay focused on '06 candidates.

1. I agree!
2006 is a huge building block for 08. Democrats must get sopena power!
If democrats get sopena power it will not matter who we run in 08.

2. Agree and Disagree
I agree with everything you propose, and I'm much more interested in 06 than 08.

However, it'd be dangerous for Dems to ignore the reality that for many, many voters style wins out over substance. The television elects the candidate. Too many voters have been American Idol-ized and celebrity beaten to the point where they honestly do think they're doing the right thing by "voting for the 'man' - not the party."

Someone, somewhere within the Dem party has to keep an eye toward 08. If not, John McCain will be our next preznit.

3. Marc Holzman is well known now
and few like him. I like Bill Ritter personally, but his candidacy is uninspiring.

6. A-fornicatin'-men.
Stick to discussions of '08 for times when you need to distract some Freepig. Here, let's figure out how we can return at least one house of Congress to the people and away from these fascist loons.

8. Agreed! 2006 is two full years before 2008. Let 2006 leaders run in 2008.
