Map shows 2004 Dem vote county by county by percentages
This demonstrates that while there may be red and blue states, it is much more complicated than that. Note, for instance, the broad band of dark and light blue through Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama:

1. Great map.
It certainly shows us where we need progressive radio, where we need to send reps and where we really need to work hard. My guess is that most of the very red areas had none of that.

2. That's Alabama's Black Belt
It's called the Black Belt because of the color of the soil, but since it was also primarily plantation country it has a high percentage of African Americans. They're also - not coincidentally - the poorest counties in the state

3. OMG - my eyes are burning from all that RED!
LOL.

Thanks for the link. Very interesting! I didn't realize I was actually in a "pink" district - just assumed it was red.

9. If you could create a new state
comprising eastern Arkansas, the Mississippi Delta and Memphis it would be the bluest state in America.

6. That's always interesting to look at
You can see the potential in Colorado, for instance. But a so-called swing state like Missouri is basically pure red and no hint Nevada is turning blue. I don't see how anyone can knock a Democratic senator from Nebraska when you look at that map and consider the type of Republican who should probably hold that position. Mostly we need a few dozen huge cities strategically uprooted from other countries and planted where we need them electorally.

10. RE "no hint Nevada is turning blue"
only one county is blue on this map, clark county. but that is all that matters as 71% of Nevadans live there. clark continues to gain in % of the state's pop (50% in 1970 to 71% in 2000) Kerry got 48% carrying just Clark, a slightly stronger showing there and he'd have won the state. The Gore/Nader vote was 48.5%.
