Get Yer GOP Talking Points
Below... hot off the presses.
ELECTION '05 TALKING POINTS
ELECTION '05 TALKING POINTS

Top Line Talking Points

• Tonight was a vote for the status quo. We began the night with 28 GOP governorships and we concluded the evening with the same amount.
• The two gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia are not determinate of larger trends. Each was a race unique unto itself.
• In these off-year races, the electorate is focused on local issues, and whether the candidates represent their values and beliefs.

Success in '05

• Republicans won the Virginia Lt. Governor's race with Bill Bolling defeating Leslie Byrne 51% to 49%, and in the Attorney General's race it appears Bob McDonnell defeated Creigh Deeds.
• Republican Michael Bloomberg won re-election with over 55% of the mayoral vote in New York City.

National Implications

• In 2001, in a post-9/11 environment, President Bush's approval ratings were at historic levels yet Democrats easily won the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial races.
• Even with their 2001 victories, Democrats were still incapable of picking up ground in the midterms. In 2002, Republicans picked up two seats in the Senate and six in the House.
• In 1997, with Bill Clinton near a 60% approval rating, the GOP won governor's races in Virginia and New Jersey, but in 1998 Democrats picked up five seats in the House.
• In 1998 and 2002, historical trends of mid-term elections were bucked, and the previous year's gubernatorial results were no indication whatsoever of what happened in the federal elections.
• Our success in VA down-ballot races demonstrates that these local races have more to so with candidates and local issues, than the national environment.

National Implications of VA Gubernatorial Election

1. And the Number One top GOP talking point is ...
"We will leave no straw, no matter how flimsy, left ungrasped."

2. Hannity's show today. Right down the line.
He is becoming almost hilarious. The top "status quo" quote I heard between 5 and 5:30 EST, and I bet he used that and the others plenty. No surprise; that's his show - and the only thing he does. The GOP talking points.

4. Some examples from other boards >>>>
"Um, both VA and NJ already held the governor seats before today. This is just status quo." (That came from someone I know to be about 18 or 19 years-old and not real bright. That's a big phrase for him to use.)

"I'm sure in the mind of a Liberal that's how it looks. The candidate is either good or bad in the voter's eye. Kilgore wasn't as good, or atleast not good enough to change the status quo.

Nothing was gained by the GOP in those 2 elections, but no positions were lost either since they both had democrats there to begin with. keep overstating things if you want though."

"I guess I can see why the Democrats consider this a win. Keeping the status quo is a victory for them, the last severals years they have been steadily losing power and elections, at least they can hold on to the fact that they didn't lose their governorships too."

"I dont see how it's meaningful at all that the democrats managed to not lose a governorship. The previous governor was a Democrat, and the previous Lt. Governor (a democrat) won election as the governor. However, the new Lt. Governor of Va is a Republican. So before the election both Gov and Lt. Gov were Democrats, now only the Gov is a democrat. Looks to me that the Republicans won that one..."

"So we have 2 democrat Governors replaced with 2 more. How did you gain anything again...?

I know being a liberal is tough these days so I'll let you enjoy your bask in the dark"

"Kilgore lost the election if you saw the ads you know why. Smear tactics work for Democrats they love believing everything they hear especially if it’s bad. Republicans actually want some substance and someone with some dignity and morals."

"lmao the news is pushing this story this morning. Minneapolis and St Paul are supposed to be referendums on Bush. The media made a big deal about Mayor Kelley getting the boot because he supported bush. afaik he is a democrats and got beat by an independent lmao.

So now democrats are so desperate they are claiming a victory when independents win lmao. "

made it an issue that Kelly aligned himself with bush during the "re-election" campaign 2004. he's a real Democrat, unlike the DINO mayor Kelly. this is just more oxycontin rush talking point lies. read about Chris Coleman here:

A Bush Democrat May Lose His Way
By Peter Slevin and Chris Cillizza

Sunday, November 6, 2005; Page A05

It was just one little endorsement of the president of the United States by the mayor of a heartland city. The year was 2004 and the race was close. The mayor embraced President Bush and even did a little campaigning for him.

Trouble was, Mayor Randy Kelly was the Democratic mayor of overwhelmingly Democratic St. Paul, Minn. And has it caused problems for his reelection campaign.

One national Democratic politician after another has waved a flag for his opponent, fellow Democrat and former city council member Chris Coleman. Several flew to St. Paul to deliver the defeat-Kelly message in person, among them Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.)...

6. Hey they lost and that's why the talking points saying they didn't.
That's pretty clear. If they won they would be celebrating instead of talking to themselves about not losing anything.

In other words they are saying, "we didn't win anything and neither did the Dems because the game didn't count."

Well my friends on the right, the game was played, you didn't win. California will remain blue and you can't win there. Take that as status quo but the truth is you tried a power grab and lost. That is a mega loss in all books.

It's fascinating, actually. Last night they were talking about losing and "licking their wounds" and that kind of thing and suddenly it's "status quo!" "Dem states, big deal" etc etc same language as the talking points. Is that updated every day? I'll bet you could look in the a.m. and know what the Freeps will be spitting out in the afternoon. God they are such brainwashed pods!
