Alert! NC Progressives Voted for VVPB...But Governor and his Cronies
Edited on Fri Nov-11-05 08:26 PM by KoKo01
have now thwarted all our efforts to get that Bill passed to require a "Verified Voter Paper Trail."

"They" have appointed Keith Long in charge of "certifying ALL NC voting equipment purchases of DRE's" thereby circumventing the bill we fought so hard to put in place.

Here's Keith Long's Background from his "Disclosure Agreemen" signed with the NC Board of Elections just now:

1. As a North Carolina State Board of Elections Independent Contractor helping with the current RFP and an resulting contract as to voting systems, I am filing this Disclousre Agreement to fully inform the North Carolina State Boaard of Electiions, the State of Noerth Carolina, ITS and the general public of my previous business relations with the following vendors, teesters and produers of voting systems and election related products:

Diebold Election Systems
Sequoia Voting

Hart InterCivic
Computere Elections Systems (ceased independent operation in the 1980's and was absorbed into the current vendor ES&S)

Systest Labs (and independent testing company)

......

Long's "Disclosure Agreement" goes on to state that he is no longer employed by these folks, and his previous business relationships with these afore listed would cause him not to pperform his taks and duties as not to promote the best interests of the public.

etc...etc....etc...

YET this guy was involved in the purchase of ALL THE GEORGIA "DRE" MACHINES which threw out Max Cleland...and in the Maryland purchase of the DRE's and has been on the Boards of the "Fake" testing companies who can't even CERTIFY THESE MACHINES!

This is what we are dealing with here. I know that no one is interesed in this anymore...but if NC who has a Dem Governor is appointing "Elections Commissioners" who appoint someone like Keith Long who has already screwed up two states when so many of us fought so long for a BILL TO STOP THIS...WHAT DOES THAT SAY?

Keith Long is someone who has to go...BEWARE...it's coming soon to YOUR STATE! :-(

1. Could Wally O'Dell have bought them off?
I'm trying to remember the name of the so-called "prominent Democrat" was that Wally O'Dell signed on to work with Diebold..

I remember reading about him on here though.. and it sounded like O'Dell hired the guy as a PR ploy to make Diebold appear less partisan. I think he used to work for the DNC or...? ..I dunno, I can't remember right off.

But it made me wonder how true-blue of a Democrat he was to go to work for Wally O'Dell... Or maybe the $$$$$ they offered him was just too good for him to say no.

I'm not familiar with the Democratic Governor in NC, or with Keith Long.. but I sure don't trust Wally "I promise to hand Bush the election" O'Dell one iota.

Seems like they'll do anything.. pay anything.. to get their corrupt machines installed throughout the nation.

2. It's internal here in NC and in other states. These Voting Machine Co's
have wined and dined and given "DeLay" type payoffs everywhere. It's find out the paper trail as to who they paid...and one needs research and connections to do it.

We will fight back on the legislative side...but that they would have hired SUCH A CRONY/INSIDER is sort of "In your Face" and pretty discouraging...but then they knew it would be.

We have a good Progressive Group here in NC (it's small but vocal) and I hope we can get the help we need from National Voting Rights Organizations to help us do something...like bringing a "Class Action Suit" or something. We gave up most of our resources getting the bill through...it's hard for any of us to keep giving up time and money to go after this the way it needs to be done. We need "BIG GUN" help.

I posted here, hoping someone would see it and could connect to some help. We can fight it on a small scale with information for awhile but at some point we need lawyers who can guide us. No one can spend any more time "working for free" on this to give it the attention it needs.

We are fighting the Repug Voting Machine...the Roves and his groups that have been at this for Decades. We are doing our best.

4. Yes....we fought to get a Bill through and it passed requiring Voting
Machines to have a Verified Voter Paper Ballot that can be Audited and Re-Counted and that has "Open Source Code" Programming that the State can oversee.

However, there is a "Pilot Program" that we couldn't stop that allows a "printer" to be attached to DRE Machines to record votes. It's not necessarily the same as a Paper Ballot and we don't know what they will do with it. If the Counties buy all "DRE" Machines the paper audit trail may not be "Verifiable" and force the Legislature to rescind the bill just to go with "Touch Screens" with no paper trail ...claiming it just can't be done the way the bill is written.

It's sort of a "Catch 22." We felt good that we got a Bill on the record that can be amended for problems ...but that could also mean it could be legislated against us...considering they just hired the GUY FROM HELL who put GEORGIA UNDER ALL MANDATORY DRE MACHINES...and he has our Dem Govenor and Dem Board of Elections Commissioners in full support.

Yet...it was the PROGRESSIVE DEMS who Fought to get this bill through the Legislature. We are a small group...It's sad our Dems are joining the Repugs in trying to thwart it.

5. What's the motive here?
Is it money? Or are the Dems trying to control things like the Repubs did in Ohio, making everything turn out good for the Dems.

I am disgusted with all the crap that's been going on with the lottery. This could bring down some very good freshmen Dems in the statehouse. They are great people....honest and more progressive than the old-guard.
