I support the troops, not Bush
Edited on Sat Nov-12-05 10:32 AM by Mountainman
I want this made into a bumper sticker with stars and stripes.

It points out the hypocrisy of putting a "I support the troops" ribbon on your car knowing that Bush lied to get us into this needless war that is killing so many of our children yet still supporting him.

How do I get millions of people to put this on their car? Can DU get them made and we could hand them out? We could put Democraticunderground.com on them.

1. Here's what I wanna do:
Edited on Sat Nov-12-05 10:35 AM by danagsk8
I want to knit a blue vest with a stars-'n-stripes Peace symbol on the back, as a "Peace is Patriotic" message!

I'm a self-taught knitter, by the way! ;)

2. I don't "Support the Troops" or Bush...
Why should we "support" people who are voluntarily taking an active part in fighting an unjust and unnecessary war? When we do, what does that make us?

7. A hammer is just a dumb tool. Is that how you see our military?
I prefer to think of them as people with brains and souls, not as mindless unquestioning tools sent by evil men.

9. When you are a troop, you do what you're told.
I'm guessing you wouldn't know anything about that. :eyes:

12. "You do what you're told"? like burning babies alive, maybe?
I'm sorry, but the idea that you abandon your heart, mind, and soul when you enter the military is repugnant to me. It's a mindset I would prefer to NOT know anything about.

14. Civilians have been known to hurt babies, too
And they don't even HAVE to!

:eyes:

Anyway, nice talking to you, but that's the last I'll see of your posts, ta-ta.

8. I think most of the troops volunteered for service but not for the war.
especially the reserves and national guard. I think that most of those in service never thought they would ever have to go to war. They knew it was a possibility but that possibility would be to defend this country not to fight in a preemptive war based on Bush's lies.

I personally was drafted to fight in Vietnam but I never supported that war. I wanted to do my time and survive the war and come home and forget about it. I think that's how most of the troops feel now.

I was not supported by my country because so many people said back then what you are saying today. It hurt then and still does. It is the one thing about that war that I can never get over no matter what people say about us today. I don't want that to happen to our troops now.

11. I support them as individuals, not as cogs in the military machine.
Right now, they're not fighting for Bush or Cheney or Rumsfeld or O'Reilly or Coulter or America. At this point they're fighting for each other, to keep each other alive. If any of them are still deluded enough to think that this is a "just war" or that they are "doing the right thing", that's just something they'll have to work out on their own. But they're really not in a part of the world where desertion is a viable option. By and large, these are poor kids who thought they could get an education and make something of their lives. They never thought that they'd be dragged into combat on the basis of a lie. And I do not disparage them because they're poor. I've been poor all my life.

13. Yes, those who make it home will need a lot of support ...
They will have been taught to mindlessly slaughter, and many are likely to do very bad things here.

15. I have 4 bumper stickers on my car.
One reads "Support the Troops Bring Them Home." Then I have 2 red, white and yellow ribbons. One reads "US Out Of Iraq," and the other one "Bring Them Home." And then, of course, there's my DemocraticUnderground.com sticker.
