Let's help Christians out when it comes to defining Marriage
Not only will it be between only a man and a woman but such unions will be for life. There will be zero possibility for divorce or physical separation, except for military duty. The couple must reside in the same household until one or the other dies of natural death. What Christian would oppose such a definition? You can only get away from your spouse by joining the Army. That's fair, right?

1. That would certainly go a long way
to preserving the sanctity of marriage.

17. Never
A christian trapped in a marriage not meant to be surely would not do harm to a spouse. It would never ever happen in America. They would seek counseling (from a Priest). They would live happily ever after receiving dobson e-mails daily on marriage maintenance. The would maintain the sanctity of marriage, praise the lord.

6. That would be "covenant"
which is not as harsh as my absurd suggestion. Lets push forward with absurdity to expose absurdity and hypocrisy. and lets push the issue of separation of church and state to the front burner.

3. Love? You can't Require Love, but that's part of "it".
Edited on Mon Nov-14-05 04:12 PM by patrice
You want to be able to speak of a Civil Right to Confirm Publicly, Love between two :pals: ( or more  or O8) people), said confirmation not being denied ANY OTHER consenting "adults".

Divorce is, of course, Necessary to the dynamic. If there is no Choice, how can there be "Love".

7. Sometimes it doesn't work out that way.
Sometimes straight couples find out they're incompatible. That's why divorce is legal.

Gay couples are NEVER compatible so they should NEVER be "married." That's why gay "marriage" will NEVER be legal.

When are you gonna get it straight?

15. God Bless Ya!
I know in my heart that I would never remarry if my wife died. We have been married 32 years and no one could possibly replace her in my heart. I'd rather die than live without her and I'm a flaming liberal with all my wacky beliefs. What's wrong with that picture? Nothing!

18. and how 'bout
let's go back say just 50 years ago and require that Christians married in a church agree to abide by ALL their church's teachings at that time, including no use of birth control, no divorce, no church marriage for non-virgins, no interracial or inter-religious marriage, no right of inheritance or to separate property by women, approved use of severe corporeal punishment or abuse by "the man" to enforce his will on his family, no separate women's rights, no right to refuse sexual advances, etc.

19. I agree. If marriage needs defending, it's from divorce.
Outlaw divorce.
Make adultery a crime.
Make soliciting for sex a federal felony, with mandatory sentencing.

We can save marriage, if we have to place half the country in prison.

First time drug offenders who become hard-core criminals!

Maybe we could call your idea the 'war on marriage'

21. Since the reason for marriage is children, birth control should be
criminalized. Couples should have as many children as God chooses to send them. Possession of any birth control devices would be a felony offense(say 3-6 months in jail and a serious fine).

Lets put God back in marriage and kick those damned libruls out!
