http://www.ktuu.com/cms/templates/master.asp?articleid=1899&zoneid=1Washington, D.C. - Alaska Rep. Don Young is confident money will not be taken away in Congress for those so-called ‘bridges to nowhere.’ Young made that statement this week, when asked about another potential attempt to get rid of the money.
The so-called ‘bridges to nowhere’ have garnered plenty of media attention and criticism. But, so far, there has been no successful attempt to cut the hundreds of millions of dollars in already approved federal funding for a Ketchikan-Gravina bridge and a Knik Arm crossing to be named for Congressman Don Young.
Indeed, Young himself said earlier this week that the money will stay.
“I'm confident. You know, I’m not in this game to lose,” said Young.
Young was asked about the intentions of Arizona Republican Jeff Flake. Flake said he wanted to cut 10 percent of earmarks nationally that include the Alaska bridge money and have it offset hurricane relief spending and other priorities. What a fricking asshole. People are starving in this world and the guy is still adament about these bridges being built even though they go nowhere and do NOTHING to help better this country. BUt then again since one of them will be named after him I can see why he's fighting so hard
:grr:
Flake said states like Alaska should be able to take the remainder of their special project money, disregard congressional instructions and decide what they want to do with the funding. The Arizona congressman calls the Alaska projects “national jokes.”
