Three days that transformed America - UPI
Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 11:41 PM by Mass
I may be missing something, but I wonder what this reporter has smoked.

With all the respect I have for Murtha, he is not the first one to attack Bush head-on on Iraq. I think this gentleman has missed a few of Gore's speeches, for the least.

I know these are the Moonies, but still ? Where are they going here?

Three days that transformed America

By MARTIN SIEFF
UPI Senior News Analyst

WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- On Thursday, a Democratic national politician for the first time managed to do what former Vice President Al Gore, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, their running mates and more than $150 million of Democratic consulting and campaign resources signally failed to do in more than five years and two national elections: He mauled President George W. Bush.

....

Now, he has transformed the political dynamics of the Democratic Party. He is the first prominent Democrat since former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean in his meteoric lightning rise and fall in 2003 to early 2004 to attack the president head-on on Iraq. In January 2004 in the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary, Democratic voters overwhelmingly repudiated Dean's bold stand against the war and not a single leading Democrat since has dared to oppose it outspokenly and consistently.

2. it's obvious that Murtha 's impact is much bigger than the previous ones
the fact that he is both a Korea and Vietnam vet, gives him even more clout. They cannot swifboat him.

the immediate reactions in the media and the WH pathetic M.Moore comparison show it. Besides the time is ripe. Even if some before him said about the same (Did Kerry said it, I doubt it) he blows up a wall where Cindy made a crack.

4. But they are
"Rep. Murtha and Democratic leaders have adopted a policy of cut and run. They would prefer that the United States surrender to the terrorists who would harm innocent Americans...

:But now, Rep. Murtha and other Democrats want us to retreat. They want us to wave the white flag of surrender to the terrorists of the world.

"I have known John Murtha to be a long-term veteran of this institution.. Did he see the faces the rest of America saw when terrorists plowed into the Pentagon or when the plane that was headed for a Washington target went down in Pennsylvania?"

They smear anybody. What matters is whether Democrats stand behind our people or help them with their smears.

6. Freepers newspapers have started articles on how he is not an
authentic VietNam hero . (and the idea that he is running for president... I guess he could, but he is 72.

12. I KNEW IT!!!!! I F*CKING KNEW IT!!
Veteran John McCain ran against George W. Bush, and we found out he "never really served". Veteran Al Gore ran against George W. Bush, and we found out he "never really served". Veteran John Kerry ran against George W. Bush, and we found out he "never really served". Now veteran Murtha is speaking out against George W. Bush, and we find out he "never really served".

Seems no one's service can quite come up to the heroic level of being AWOL in Montgomery, Alabama, "helping with the senate campaign of Red Blount", one of Poppy's friends.

If General Patton were to rise from the dead and run or speak out against George W. Bush, we'd find out HE "never really served".

Bringing a war veteran around Junior Bush is apparently like spraying pollen in the face of a person with hay fever allergy. It positively unmans him.

3. Incredible
And people blame Democrats when this shit is staring them right in the face. Then again, I can't help but wonder how long it will take the left to forget the events of the last few weeks and elevate Murtha to Dem Party savior status.

2004 Kerry On Iraq

“Yet today, President Bush tells us that he would do everything all over again, the same way. How can he possibly be serious? Is he really saying to America that if we know there was no imminent threat, no weapons of mass destruction, no ties to al Qaeda, the United States should have invaded Iraq? My answer: resoundingly no, because a commander in chief's first responsibility is to make a wise and responsible decision to keep America safe."

"The president claims it is the centerpiece of his war on terror. In fact, Iraq was a profound diversion from that war and the battle against our greatest enemy, Osama bin Laden and the terrorists. Invading Iraq has created a crisis of historic proportions and, if we do not change course, there is the prospect of a war with no end in sight."

5. Actually, it is so extreme it is funny.
I think they are impressed because Murtha is an hawk, so his conversion strikes more than others.

(including the story about the 5 deferments - I have not heard Murtha say it, but I may have missed it - However, I know somebody who said it more than once, including today).

Frankly, Murtha gave a great speech and it is important to see that all dems are starting to go after Bush and Cheney together. This is great news.

8. I loved his speech
Hope to see many more such speeches in the coming days. Not to mention that budget vote today, that was a real kick in the pants too.

9. Yup. Heard Murtha mention the 'people with 5 deferments' or
something like it on NPR today. I was shocked, I tell you, shocked! that such a strong chastisement made it to NPR news. Murtha first expressed his anger at his critics who 'have never served in any war', then mentioned the 'someone with 5 deferments' thing!
