Dem leaders should say they're united behind 95% of Mutha's positions
Edited on Fri Nov-18-05 01:45 PM by DemsUnited
That's what should be emphasized, the unity NOT the disagreement.

Most Democrats would bring troops home tomorrow if the only other choice was "stay the course". But a lot of Dems sincerely believe that leaving now would create a dangerous power vacuum in Iraq.

Bottom line, all Democrats are united solid against the disastrous "stay the course" campaign slogan and want to develop a real plan. So what if there's some debate about the details of that plan -- that's called democracy.

2. Surely, the American people aren't stupid enough
to believe the only two choices are "cut and run" or "do exactly what we've been doing"

3. I am not entirely sure there is a military solution in Iraq
The concept of a foreign military (our military) filling some power vacuum is scary. Is the implication that Iraq needs a military force to fill it's lack of domestic power?

If that is true, we can forget about democracy in Iraq, and think more about the Pakistani model which facilitated (and continues to facilitate?) WMD proliferation.

5. Agree with you.

Bushco has made such a godawful mess that no one really knows the best solution, both for now and for the long term. Is it Mutha's brave immediate withdrawal position? Or is it one of the phased withdrawal solutions proposed by Kerry and others?

Point is, the media is hyping how "even Democrats don't support Mutha". I think Dems should emphasize how they definitely support Mutha's main thesis that the status quo is an unmitigated disaster and we need an honest debate about where to go from here.

7. I agree! Great idea! It is a huge mess. We all agree on that.
The only question:

Rob Cordry posed the question of how the administration is now going to "mislead us out of Iraq?"

But clearly to me, we should never allow a courageous Democrat and a veteran at that to be hung out to dry by the partisan quacks, thugs, hooligans, liars, and creeps in power.

So saying we support some very high percentage of what Murtha said sounds like an excellent idea!

6. Yep. And also with Michael Moore. SO WHAT?
Edited on Fri Nov-18-05 02:13 PM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
Neocons may question Moore's motivation, but whatever his motivation, be it idealism, fame or fortune, or a mixture of all three (the most common human blend), Moore has for a long time spoken truth to power with great courage, and mocked its surreally duplicitous propaganda, long before Democratic politicians could safely or profitably do so. Whatever the case, his motivation is scarcely likely to be as duplicitous and flawed as that of his neocon critics.

So, yes, the Democratic tent is so broad these days, there are plenty of CIA, military grandees and patrician Republicans rubbing shoulders with Michael and all other Dems in good faith.

Incidentally, the word, "spin" is itself the grand-daddy of all spin. Propaganda may be neutral in its proper meaning, but in the 20th century, it became imbued with heavily negative overtones, which the word "spin" euphemises; like the term, "fat cat", for "shark".
