I think EVERY democrat should have voted "Aye".....
... it would have failed (as rethugs still control the house.... for a brief time longer) then looked across the aisle and said "Now what?"
..... just like my ninth graders do..... just before they're rolling on the floor beating the shit out of each other.

3. You know how folks who have had to have something....
amputated will feel a "ghost limb"?
I think TOO many democrats think that there is this "ghost limb" of *'s popularity that they have to contend with.

5. That was my thought too. Call their bluff.
Either way it would have failed.

Voting yes would probably have divided the Dems, not good but still preferable to giving repigs the content for next year's smear ads. First they say they want to end the war, then they vote to continue it ... how can you trust our security to such wafflers?

Most people will not understand what happened yesterday.

6. I agree,
now The Democratic Congressmen are on the record as supporting the war by not calling for immediate withdrawal. Good sound bites for the Repukes. It will make further criticism of the war less effective.

Yes, it was a Repuke trap, but they fell into it. I wish they had shown the courage of their convictions. Let the American people know the difference between us and them.

7. sure they will. the "Republicans Voted Against a GOP-Sponsored Bill" to
pull all troops out of Iraq immediately without any protection. the GOP wanted to CUT AND RUN, but the Democrats DEFEATED THE BILL.

8. I see your point (and it's a good one), but I'm afraid the only thing
Joe Sixpack is going to hear is that the magnanimous Repugs gave Dems the chance to end the war but they chose not to. Blah, blah, blah.

I cringe when I think how this can be used against us.
