Would you condone public spanking ...

... for elected officials who act like children?

I came across this piece on another site this morning:

"But one senior Republican, who spoke on background to avoid irking colleagues, said he was surprised that GOP leaders had allowed matters to reach the point of loud name-calling in the House. 'At this point there appears to be little ADULT SUPERVISION over floor proceedings,' the lawmaker said."

If the Republicans are going to act like an unruly kindergarten class on the floor, maybe we need a 'class monitor' to mete out appropriate punishment, in an attempt to persuade them to mend their childish ways, to whit:

Members who engage in name-calling, or making scurrilous statements calling their colleagues' patriotism into question, will have their mouths washed out with soap.

Hunter will stand on the DC Mall, in front of a giant blackboard, and write "I will not steal my colleague's idea, change it entirely, and then try to pass it off as being his," a thousand times.

Members who insist on saying things like, "We're making incredible progress in Iraq," will sit on the steps of the Capitol wearing duncecaps.

And all of these punishments, of course, will be televised live on CSPAN, because justice must not only be done, "it must be seen to have been done."
