Hillary Vs. Rudy Would Be Blockbuster Race
ALBANY, N.Y. - In a political universe unaccustomed to single-name celebrities there are "Hillary" and "Rudy."
Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is the only former first lady ever elected to public office. Republican Rudolph Giuliani is the man dubbed "America's Mayor" for his leadership after terrorists struck his city, New York, on Sept. 11, 2001.

The two lead party rivals in polling for the far-off White House race in 2008, a potential blockbuster matchup that promises all the political buzz and tabloid hype that only Hillary versus Rudy could deliver. Neither has committed publicly to running.

5. As a New Yorker,
I would vote for Hillary over Rudy any day. I REMEMBER what Rudy was like PRE-9/11. He is a bigoted BULLY. 9/11 doesn't change that.

Besides, is Rudy "suddenly" going to become anti abortion, anti gay rights, anti gun control?

12. From one NYer to
another, AMEN. Even hot after 9/11, Rudy couldn't get NYers votes: He wanted to run for a 3rd term (we have term limit)and poll after poll said a majority of us did not want him to run for the 3rd term. We'd survive just fine without him, and we have, for the better.

13. Rudy's got great "moral values" too...
You know, like openly dating Judy Nathan while he was still married. She lived in Gracie Mansion, too, until she was ordered out. Oh, and Rudy's wife found out about his intention to get a separation watching his press conference on TV.

Whadda guy!

6. And agonizing. Can you imagine the commercials?
I think I'd stab myself in the eye.

I'd rather someone else run anyway.

But, I think the national party is looking for the most saleable name, and that's probably it.

:grr:

8. Saleable name
That's what our politics have come to, saleable name.

It would almost be funny if the fate of our country weren't riding on it.

It seems we have become a nation of people with the attention span of a 30 second commercial or sound bite.

It's really kind of scary.

7. Can someone explain what was so great about Giuliani after 9/11.
Is it the same kinda shit that made people think * was great for grabbing a bullhorn and threatening Afghanistan because PNAC, er, I mean, a bunch of Saudi's were alleged to attack Merka.

26. He's an arrogant bastard who has a weird love life
I thought he did a good job during the Sept 11th trajedy. However, he was such a jerk and such a bully when Mayor. He'll never get the nod b/c of his weird love live. Might have even dated a cousin or somthing rumored like that? Hillary is a big NO. She's pro war and a DLC member which means she'll say whatever the polls indicate. I think Wesley Clark may be a good choice in these times. ABH!

9. isn't that Dick Morris's next book? I wish they'd stop shoving these
nitwits onto us. Will they air a "Gore howl" or "Clark yelp" in 2008 300+ times?

11. A media fantasy
Hillary does not have the nomination locked up, and she pisses off the left (you know, the people who actually vote in these caucuses and primaries, rather than Howard Fineman) more every day with her efforts to be an American "tough gal" Margaret Thatcher. She has not criticized the Iraq war at all.

Giuliani hasn't even said he's running, he has closet full of baggage (Hillary does too, but it's all out), and the Republican Party won't nominate a pro-choice, pro-gay rights, pro-gun control candidate, except in the world of the West Wing. Then again, I think Vinnick is a little more conservative than Giuliani. He could win the New Hampshire primary, but that's about it. He'd get drilled in all the other primaries.

But I guess we'll have to put up with this media fantasy for at least another two years. :eyes:

14. 2 moderate Republicans, yay!
I like both sides of the same coin myself, it's a good choice. When one side confounds you, you turn it over for another confounding.

15. Let's just say for the heck of it that those are the choices...
I would have to bet on Clinton, in that case. I don't think Rudy can overcome the nasty divorce scandal. And I think Hillary's trump card is Bill. I think the Clinton's would run heavily on his accomplishments during his presidency, and I have no doubt that they would present "Hill and Bill" as a team. And Bill Clinton is still extremely popular.
