Snail mail gets the job done
Over the weekend a friend who is in a graduate digital communication program said that the best way to contact your Congress person remains snail mail. Many Congress people apparently haven't spent the money to get the biggest bang out of email--some don't have enough staff to keep up with the overwhelming amount of email they receive.
I know that of the many emails I have sent, even to Congresspeople who have fairly elaborate webpages, a response is rare, whereas, it may take a while, but I get responses to letters sent.
Moral of the story--email em when you have the immediate urge to let them know how you stand on an issue--such as the war, the liars in the administration and all those other issues that make our fingers fly on the keyboard--BUT print it out and pop a copy into the mail.
Here's a cite for you:

1. Also, email is
easily deleted. Snail mail will remain the best way of contacting Senators and Representatives into the foreseeable future.

2. I don't mind snail mail, but...
when I searched several Congressional websites (Senators, Representatives etc.) some of them say it takes too long to read/respond to regular mail. Evidently they are STILL inspecting mail for possible contamination.

3. As a member of ACLU
Edited on Sun Nov-20-05 11:43 PM by waiting for hope
I have had no trouble in emailing my elected Senators through the ACLU's website (not by me - NC is red as the day is long...) and have always received a letter back (albeit condescending and patronizing). Mike McIntyre has always emailed me back and I do enjoy getting those. I am trying to get something together for the vapor Liddy Dole and will have to send that one by mail. Hopefully it will get read but I doubt it, I'm probably already on her "Stupid Democrat" list...

6. They know someone who wrote a letter feels very strongly
Email only takes a few seconds.

I interviewed Durbin one time and he said email is one of his major concerns. The volume is overwhelming and he has limited staff. He has developed software to identify voters and constituents and to prioritize their comments. If you are from out of state or out of district, you are not likely to get much attention.
