WTF is wrong with Schumer?
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 11:30 AM by nickshepDEM
Why is he encouraging another Dem to challenger Spitzer in the 2006 Democratic Primary?

November 21, 2005 -- ALBANY — Sen. Charles Schumer is secretly encouraging Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi to challenge Attorney General Eliot Spitzer for the Democratic nomination for governor, insiders have told The Post.

Schumer's backing of the just-re-elected Suozzi — which includes informal advice on strategy and fund-raising — results from a long-standing rivalry with, and a deep personal dislike for, the high-profile Spitzer, Democratic Party insiders say.

Spitzer's political advisers are aware of Schumer's apparent actions.

"It seems pretty clear to us that Schumer is playing 'footsie' with Suozzi," a source close to Spitzer told The Post.

9. Spitzer is the best thing that ever happened to New York
and will go right after anyone with a bulldog mentality that is on the shady side of the law.

16. I agree. He's got the stuff to back up what he says.

But Schumer still feels threatened. Between Hillary and Spitzer, he's just not as interesting. Too bad, I think he's a terrific senator too.

Sptizer and Robert Morgenthau.

4. He' s tired of being the "other" senator from NY
and if Spitzer his elected his star quality will again leave Schumer in that position? Just a guess.

12. Yes, please!
On a good day, a very good day, The NY Post is about one step (maybe only half a step) above something like the Star or the National Enquirer...

8. Seems pretty clear to me -- he and Spitzer have "history."

Just when I was getting over my longstanding wariness of Schumer.... but, as they say, I guess that's politics.

13. Schumer didnt support Suozzi the 1st time he ran
Schumer& Hillary backed Tom DiNapoli. Mario Cuomo was Suozzis biggest backer. Suozzi pulled a huge upset in 2000, in the very republican Nassau County. Since Suozzis win, a lot has changed on Long Island...Suffolk County now has a Democratic County Executive also, and Long Island has gone Blue for the 1st time in 106 years. Suozzi has star power...good looking, intelligent& articulate..but not that well know through the rest of the state. Still think Spitzer is the best choice..he has a 62% approval rating. But both men are well qualified. I can never figure out Schumer...maybe its to mend fences between him & Suozzi? Maybe he knows Suozzi wont win? After the Ferrer Fiasco , who can figure out the reasoning behind anything they do. But one thing for sure...Schumer has never met a camera he didnt like...standing joke...the most dangerous place in NY is between Schumer and a camera.

28. Well, at least it's not a camera
He'd have to duke it out with Biden then.

That said, I'm wondering who gave these guys those reps, as Kerry had a similar one when he was investigating BCCI and Iran/Contra. He was frozen out of the media, so he'd dive at any live camera to get publicity for what the investigation. Hence the Republicans dubbed him "Liveshot."

So, like I said, I'd like to find out how Biden, Schumer and Spitzer got those reputations, and from whom.

Amazingly many of the ones who are irate at Schumer for this move, thought it simply fine that he picked an anti-choice candidate in PA saying that we did not have the luxury of worrying about such issues anymore. We were told we were just being "one-issue" people, not to worry.

A little irony there.
