#6 Joe Braun

But guess what? It turns out that Jean Schmidt isn't just a smear-artist: she's a first-rate hypocrite. In her primary campaign, Schmidt's platform included "promoting family values." But last week it was revealed that her campaign manager, Joe Braun, is not exactly your conservative family-values type.

DailyKos diarists discovered that some emails unintentionally bounced back from the Schmidt campaign showed that mail addressed to joe@jeanschmidt.com was actually being forwarded to his AOL address, deanofcorn@aol.com . After some intrepid Googling, it was revealed that deanofcorn@aol.com showed up on two intriguing websites: the first was the Scioto County Ohio Republican Party, and the second was collarme.com, "the largest BDSM community on the planet."

Deanofcorn's listing appears to have since been removed - but never fear, here's a screenshot:

Yes, it turns out that Joe Braun is apparently an experienced Dom seeking a sub for long term exploration and training. His specialities include collar & cuffs, wax play, and medical exams. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. It just seems a tad odd considering he's the campaign manager of a family values Republican who is currently engaged in a smear campaign against an Iraq war veteran. Although now I come to think of it, it's actually not that odd at all.

Maybe Joe Braun's safeword was "Cut-and-run"?

Why do I get the feeling that Jean Schmidt, Joe Braun, and Danny Bubp all partied in Jeff Gannon's private dungeon?

13. Maiden Speech by the Honorable Jean Schmidt
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 04:48 PM by IanDB1
Public Statements
Speaker: Representative Jean Schmidt (OH)
Title: Maiden Speech by the Honorable Jean Schmidt
Location: Washington, DC
Date: 09/06/2005

MAIDEN SPEECH BY THE HONORABLE JEAN SCHMIDT -- (House of Representatives - September 06, 2005)

(Mrs. SCHMIDT asked and was given permission to address the House for 1 minute.)

Mrs. SCHMIDT. Mr. Speaker, I stand here today in the same shoes, though with a slightly higher heel, as thousands of Members who have taken the same oath before me. I am mindful of what is expected of me both by this hallowed institution and the hundreds of thousands of Americans I am blessed to represent. I am the lowest-ranking Member of this body, the very bottom rung of the ladder; and I am privileged to hold that title.

This House has much work to do. On that we can all agree. We will not always agree on the details of that work. Honorable people can certainly agree to disagree. However, here today I accept a second oath. I pledge to walk in the shoes of my colleagues and refrain from name-calling or the questioning of character. It is easy to quickly sink to the lowest form of political debate. Harsh words often lead to headlines, but walking this path is not a victimless crime. This great House pays the price.

So at this moment, I begin my tenure in this Chamber, uncertain of what history will say of my tenure here. I come here green with only a desire to make our great country even greater. We have much work to do. In that spirit, I pledge to each of you that any disagreements we may have are just that and no more. Walking in each other's shoes takes effort and pause; however, it is my sincere hope that I never lose the patience to view each of you as human beings first, God's creatures, and foremost. I deeply appreciate this opportunity to serve with each of you. I very much look forward to getting to know you better, and I humbly thank you, Mr. Speaker, for allowing me to address this humble body.

Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 09:10 PM by IanDB1
That's Republican-speak for, "I am Jean Schmidt, and I am not a Lesbian."

And we all know that many times those who have the most anti-gay things to say are usually the ones most likely to be running gay male escort services out of The White House, folks say.

Is Jean Schmidt a Lesbian? Some people say Jean Schmidt is not unfamiliar with the love that dare not speak its name. Let's debate it in the media for eight weeks and let the public decide.

33. "It is easy to quickly sink to the lowest form of political debate."--
--Jean Schmidt

Why is it easy?

I would think that a true lady, and presumably a Christian, into family values, would find that quite difficult. "Turn the other cheek" and all that. "Love thine enemies."

Or are we looking at a lean, mean, harradin warmonger, who would easily stoop to whatever depths of political name-calling and depraved character assassination that she thought would gain her some advantage with the murderers, thieves and liars in the Bushite leadership and among her war profiteering corporate sponsors?

"God's creatures," my ass!

Just another Republican hypocrite.

This is what comes from Diebold and ES&S selecting our political representatives: uncivil, inhumane, thoughtless, power-hungry demons from hell--people who have not had to earn their power by virtue of their intelligence, good ideas, good character and true regard for ordinary citizens. We see it again and again with these Bush "pod people" in Congress: illegitimacy written all over them; toadyism; pre-programming. How could such a rude, insulting, venonmous individual have gotten a majority of votes? Answer: she didn't.

Are Joe Braun & Danny Bubp connected to Jeff Gannon?

Ohio’s libraries earn high marks!
Danny Bubp
State Rep.

<snip>

In particular, all of us here in the 88th District are blessed with terrific libraries! We are fortunate that we avoided the proposed cuts to the libraries earlier this year and I am confident that our superior existing levels of service will be continued. In fact, congratulations are extended to Leslie Massey, Joe Braun, and the rest of the Board and Staff of the Clermont County Public Libraries who recently celebrated the library's 50th Anniversary of providing quality services to the residents of Clermont County.

Cincinnati's crazy for Cornhole

Commenter Cameron provides us with a Cincinnati Enquirer link that may give us a clue as to why Jean Schmidt for Congress campaign manager Joe Braun calls himself the "Dean of Corn":

Cincinnati's crazy for Cornhole

For Erica Lamb and her friend Lisa Price, it's all about the toss.

Kevin Broxterman and Tim Kloepfer always have their bags ready to go.

Shannan Schmitt and Randy Nauman don't consider themselves pros, but they do have their own strategy.

"Just aim and pray," says Schmitt, 31, of East Walnut Hills.

Prayers are optional, but the aim is clear: this group - along with hundreds more on any given day - can't get enough of Cincinnati's favorite home-grown game, cornhole.

<...>

"We play together a lot," says Nauman, 27, of Covedale, an investment analyst.

"We play so much," says Schmitt, a Partners in Education director at the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, "we should probably start a support group" for cornhole fanatics.

One Cincinnatian is so cornhole-crazy, he's actively campaigning for game uniformity.

<...>

"When I put up the Web site, I got e-mails asking if there are any official rules. There aren't any, so I took advantage of the number of people asking questions and started the Association to finally make universal rules for cornhole."

Whetstone says he's gotten more than 500 responses to his online survey. They came from as far away as Arizona and Washington.

<...>

"It's amazing how it brings families together," says Whetstone.

He knows what he's talking about. His mother-in-law, cousin, uncle and father all chip in to make it a family affair and keep Cincinnati the capital of cornhole.

28. VIDEO: Schmidt’s Shame
VIDEO: Schmidt’s Shame

Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-OH) today on the House floor, speaking about Rep. John Murtha (D-PA), a decorated former Marine:

Yesterday I stood at Arlington National Cemetery attending the funeral of a young marine in my district. He believed in what we were doing is the right thing and had the courage to lay his life on the line to do it. A few minutes ago I received a call from Colonel Danny Bubp, Ohio Representative from the 88th district in the House of Representatives. He asked me to send Congress a message: Stay the course. He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message, that cowards cut and run, Marines never do. Danny and the rest of America and the world want the assurance from this body – that we will see this through.

Schmidt was later forced to return to the House floor and have her remarks stricken from the record. Despite having said the purpose of her “coward” statement was to “send Congressman Murtha a message,” Schmidt claimed:

Mr. Speaker, my remarks were not directed to any member of the House and I did not intend to suggest they applied to any member, most especially the distinguished gentleman from Pennsylvania.

It's a short whip with a single flexible tail. As opposed to a short rigid whip (riding crop), or a whip with multiple tails (cat or flogger), or a larger whip (most likely to be used in BDSM would be a carriage whip).

36. SCHMIDT DISGRACED CONGRESS AND THE NATION - SCHMIDT SHOULD RESIGN
After recovering from my initial shock and outrage over the incredible remarks of Rep. Schmidt, Republican, of Ohio, I felt compelled to express my disgust at this individual’s repugnant behavior. To insult and malign a decorated veteran of 37 years of courageous service to his country is to assault all veterans of all wars. Ms. Schmidt has seen fit to attack a man who has risked his life time and again for his country. I can ‘t imagine how it must feel to have sacrificed so much for your country and to then have to listen to such a despicable attack from one who has not committed herself to any public service, let alone put her life on the line for her country. This act by Schmidt was certainly one of the most obscene displays ever witnessed in the halls of Congress. Ms. Schmidt has brought shame upon the institution of the Congress. If she had any shred of decency, she would apologize, sincerely, to the members of Congress, to all veterans and to the country and then she should walk out of the building and give up her seat so a special election could be held to put someone of basic human decency in her place.

But since it’s obvious this person doesn’t harbor even a shred of decency within her, she will stay, an excrescence on the face of Congress. Ms. Schmidt seems determined to demonstrate her unique talent for verbally defecating from her mouth for all to see and hear. I can only hope she will confine further offensive displays to her circle of friends in the Republican Party. They seem to take a peculiar delight in these repugnant, shameful acts of character assassination and calumny. Maybe we should all send Ms. Schmidt a bedpan so she has something to speak into when she feels moved to utter further excretia.

Where does the Republican Party come up with these abject beings? This Party seems to be a magnet for them. Do they go trolling for wretched souls in dark sectors known only to them? Or do they install neophytes in special boot camps of punk politics where they teach them the techniques of mean-spirited behavior inspired by misanthropy and despair.

Maybe they put ads in sniper magazines. They might look something like this:

The Republican Party seeks individuals for candidacy for public office. No intelligence, skills or aptitude required. Do you like to work with people, help people? Then go somewhere else. No interest in public service is considered a plus. Little to no work involved. Once elected, lobbyist will advise or even write the laws for you and tell you what to vote for or against. Ample paid vacations (by lobbyists) year round. No campaigning skills required (although an aptitude for lying is a real plus), our party has extensive experience in fooling voters and subverting elections. (We campaigned in 2000 promising tax reductions for everyone and got millions of middle income suckers to vote for our candidates. Then, when we took the White House, we passed a tax law which gave most of the tax reductions to the very wealthiest in the country. Hey, they’re asking to be ‘taken’!). Those technically minded can get positions with our election subversion unit at Diebold).

Extremely good compensation, basic Government salary plus commissions and tips (many corporations and wealthy cronies pay very well for our services, basically undermining smart public policy and trading the public welfare for private profits -- for those who pay.) Opportunity for rapid advancement. Positions at the highest levels of government may be opening up soon (unless we can GET that dirty rotten partisan, anti-capitalist, commie bastard, Fitzgerald). Paid training in techniques of disinformation, character assassination, misdirection and intimidation (our Neo-Con wing is loaded with the best in the business in these specialties). You learn how to work with network news people to help them to cover news events in a “balanced” way (advanced training in intimidation and subtle coercion by our Neo-con unit included).

Positions also available posing as journalists for assignment to the White House Press Corps, FOX News, ABC, etc. – You will file stories and reports frequently written by our own skilled (and Government paid!) propagandists and disinformation specialists. It’s fun! You’ll be treated like real journalists by television talk show hosts and interviewers.
For those going into television news positions you will be given news delivery training.

We’ll even give you special terms and buzz-wards to use such as “partisan political action” e.g. “Well, on the - partisan politics front - the Democrats, again, raised questions about .. /How the President oversold the intelligence/ Tom Delay’s ethical troubles/ Karl Roves involvement in the Valerie Plame outing…/ Jack Abramoff’s involvement in defrauding…/ Dick Cheney’s involvement in…/” (take your pick) – Brian Williams – NBC News

As opposed to: “Tom Delay was indicted today and characterized the Texas D.A as an extremist and the indictment as a partisan political action.”…(end of statement) – Brian Williams – NBC News.

Or, here’s a good one: “smell blood in the water”

“Well, Tom Delay has been indicted, and the Democrats smell blood in the water.” __ Gwen Awful – PBS Washington Week

Our party has demonstrated expertise in subverting elections, perverting the justice system and disrupting meaningful public debate of issues through EXTENSIVE use of techniques of disinformation, mis-direction, and when all else fails, use of, through repetition, the simple Big Lie. As a member of our party you must be able to develop a self-righteous tone of voice and demeanor while scrambling for cover: “Why, I am shocked, shocked I say, at these accusations leveled by the …/ District Attorney/ Special Prosecutor/ the Grand Jury/. This is obviously the statement of a fanatic. A fanatic, I tell you! I am shocked at such PARTISAN behavior!”

If you feel you have the qualifications or the character flaws to work for our organization, we at the GOP want to talk to you.

Yes, where do they get these deviants or do they train them.

Who Is Mean Jean's Marine? And Why Does He Think Murtha's A Coward?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2267471

On Friday, freshman Republican Rep. "Mean Jean" Schmidt mounted one of the fiercest, most personal assaults Congress has witnessed since Preston Brooks caned Charles Sumner to a bloody pulp in 1856. The target of Schmidt's attack was Rep. John Murtha, a Vietnam vet who had just introduced a resolution calling for a withdrawal of US troops from Iraq within 6 months (which included several measures designed to ensure regional stability upon pullout).

"A few minutes ago I received a call from Colonel Danny Bubp, Ohio Representative from the 88th district in the House of Representatives. He asked me to send Congress a message: Stay the course," Schmidt declared from her lectern. "He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message, that cowards cut and run, Marines never do."

By employing Bubp, a Marine reservist, as her surrogate attack dog, Schmidt sought to give the impression that the military rank-and-file overwhelmingly deplored Murtha's resolution. Murtha may have been a Marine a long, long time ago, but he doesn't understand the harsh realities of the post-9/11 world. But that tough-talking paragon of the modern warrior, Colonel Danny Bubp, whoever he is, sure as hell does. Or so Schmidt would have us believe.

A quick glance at Bubp's background reveals him to be a low-level right-wing operative who has spent more time in the past ten years engaged in symbolic Christian right crusades than he has battling terrorist evil-doers. And throughout his career, Bubp's destiny has been inextricably linked with Schmidt's. Bubp may be a Marine, but his view of Murtha as a "coward" is colored by naked political ambition. He is nothing more than cheap camouflage cover for the GOP's latest Swift-Boat campaign.

March 1999 marked the beginning of a brilliant career. It was then that Bubp became pro-bono legal counsel for Adams County for the Ten Commandments, an ad-hoc Ohio group formed to keep 10 Commandments monuments displayed in local public schools after the ACLU filed a lawsuit demanding their removal. Bubp was assisted by a Who's Who of Christian right leaders, including James Dobson, Don Wildmon, Judge Roy Moore and Jay Sekulow. The campaign was organized primarily by Rev. Rob Schenck, a former leader of the militant anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, who was once detained for threating Bill Clinton's afterlife at the National Cathedral. (Read my profile of Schenck for the Washington Monthly for the full story on this, and many more bizarre stunts).

56. WONDERFUL POST - I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THIS GUY BUBP
THANKS. GREAT POST. I DIDN'T KNOW THIS GUY'S BACKROUND. THIS IS WHAT DU IS ALL ABOUT. NO ONE PERSON CAN KEEP UP WITH ALL THIS CRAP!

I STILL LIKE MY IDEA OF EVERYBODY SENDING SCHMIDT (AND BUBP TOO, IF SO INCLINED) A BEDPAN. (IMAGINE IF SHE GETS A COUPLE THOUSAND OF THEM) PERHAPS WITH AN APPROPRIATE MESSAGE PAINTED ON IT, LIKE: "SINCE YOU MUST DISGORGE FILTH FROM YOUR MIND SPEAK INTO THIS WHEN SO INCLINED". I'M SURE OTHERS COULD THINK OF SOMETHING BETTER.

I JUST WONDER IF PEOPLE ARE OF A MIND TO TAKE SOME ACTION - FOR MURTHA, AND AGAINST PUNK POLITICS.

THIS WOULD GET MORE ATTENTION IN THE MEDIA THAN PHONE-CALLS - WHICH EVERYONE COULD STILL DO. I THINK THIS WITCH (spelling?) SHOULD GET THE PUBLIC ATTENTION SHE DESERVES. I MEAN THE GUY SHE SLANDERED IS A DECORATED VETERAN. HE RISKED HIS LIFE FOR THIS COUNTRY. SHE REALLY IS A PIECE OF _ _ _ _ - TO USE A HIGHLY INTELLECTUAL TERM.

I REALLY AM FURIOUS ABOUT THIS. I DON'T THINK THIS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PASS.

IN ANOTHER THREAD ON THIS SITE THERE IS TALK OF A RECALL. THAT SOUNDS GOOD, IF YOU ARE AN OHIO RESIDENT.

THANKS FOR THE GREAT ARTICLE.

Jean Schmidt's Values Scandal (Campaign Manager S&M scandal?)
Edited on Thu Jul-28-05 11:48 PM by RamboLiberal

Schmidt has focused her campaign on family values, but now it looks like her Campaign Manager may have used the internet to satisfy his bizarre sexual fetishes. If this is true, it is the ultimate in hypocrisy.

Here's how this whole thing came about. People who emailed the Schmidt campaign had their email's bounce back. The details of the bounce back showed that the email joe@jeanschmidt.com actually went to deanofcorn@aol.com . This is important because it shows that Schmidt Campaign Manager Joe Braun was using his AOL account for campaign purposes.

People googled this AOL account and apparently found that the same email account being used for the Schmidt campaign was also being used for a profile on a BDSM (bondage, discipline, sadomasochism -- think of the pawn shop in Pulp Fiction) website used by freaks to meet other freaks.

The smoking gun appears to be the fact that this profile was removed within a couple of hours after it had been linked to Joe Braun on the blogs (screenshot here).

So it turns out that the original source is:

Time to get scrunchy

So while you folks were questioning Paul Hackett's military service (publicly verifiable) , your campaign manager is looking for a Sub to pour wax on and look at her coochie with a speculum. What kind of values are those? Pulp Fiction values?

OH-02: Jean Schmidt's Values Scandal
Posted by Bob Brigham

On Tuesday, voters in Ohio's 2nd Congressional District will go to the polls and vote in a special congressional election. One thing that seems very clear to everyone following the race is that Republican Jean Schmidt will do anything to win. Anything.

After Jean Schmidt was embroiled in an ethics scandal, she turned right around and gobbled up the maximum contribution from the poster boy for corruption, Tom DeLay.

Since then, her supporters have been Swift Boating her opponent, smearing his service to try to score cheap political points.

Jean Schmidt's family values campaign is nothing by crass hypocrisy if her Campaign Manager is a pervert.

But my guess is you'll hear little from Jean Schmidt on this. Because she's too busy smearing Hackett and doing whatever it

Now, I disagree with Bob, there is nothing perverted about BDSM. It's perfectly acceptable, as private behavior. It isn't my taste, but neither is yogurt.

What I agree with is this: Schmidt is running around, talking about the evil gays and family values, while her campaign manager is engaged in bashing people in alternative lifestyle. And no, that isn't just code for gay.

In the past, a lot of people would have been decrying this kind of thing as dirty politics.

My reply to that is: so fucking what? Max Clelland was lied about for political gain. The man lost three of his limbs as an Infantry officer in Vietnam, and he's soft on defense?

Gays are all thoughout the GOP, hidden in a closet.

They disrespect our patritoism, our service, our beliefs, and we're supposed to help them keep their secrets?

No fucking no. No more.

It's time to get scrunchy, get in the dirt and spread it around and play as dirty as they do. They can run on the issues if they choose. But if they don't, we don't have to either.
