PNAC - Connecting the dots
While I am pleased to see many Democratic elected officials openly quistioning Bushco on their pre-war behavior...and even the "MSM" starting to catch on (sorta)... But nobody in Congress or in the media is asking "WHY"...Why did Buscho charge to war in Iraq? How does 911 fit in? Shouldn't SOME media outlet run a feature on the PNAC, their policies and key players...and compare that to the roster of PNAC folks in the administration...and our path over the last 5 years. Shouldn't someoneone...like Murtha...being yelling about the big picture?!

1. I have a friend who works for a tv
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 04:59 PM by LibDemAlways
production company which develops documentary programming. I've provided background on PNAC and told him he would be doing a patriotic service to the nation if he could get a documentary about PNAC made and on the air. He flat out told me none of the networks would touch it. He wouldn't even let me e-mail him a link to the PNAC website. Said he could get in big trouble for "going there."

That's the mentality we're up against.

3. Not a network, but a company that
makes and sells documentary pieces to the networks and to cable stations like the History Channel. They will only make what they can sell, and the corporate media is not at all interested in buying anything which would expose the lies and corruption of the Bush admin.

4. Then perhaps....
...some outlet like NPR (or such) would consider airing it. I wonder what the public's response would be if mroe people knew these plans went back over a decade. The PNAC needs to be exposed.

20. Social security used to be called the third rail of politics
Edited on Tue Nov-22-05 01:28 PM by donkeyotay
because to touch it was to kill your career. Now it's PNAC and it's because of anti-Semitism. There is a cone of silence over the conflict between protecting Jews as a religious group, and protecting Israel as part of that religion, and the problem of supporting a foreign state whose policies and interests are different from those of the American people as a whole.

21. See Scott Ritter's comment....

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_oet&address=358x203

RITTER: No. Leave Israel out of it. Israel isn't driving this. I'm saying that these are neo-conservatives with a very pro-Israel slant. Some of Israel's worst enemies are pro-Israeli Americans. I view Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz as among the worst enemies of Israel today. I consider myself very pro-Israel, and if you care about Israel, this policy of a unilateral strike against Iraq is the worst thing possible. It destabilizes the Middle East even further, and puts Israel more at risk. It's just bad policy.

5. you would think so but...
the lines get drawn in some funny places, its not just dem vs. republican... correct me if I'm wrong but I think some signers-on to the PNAC were (are?) democrats. some people really are not anti- war, but anti-Bush's execution of the war...

I plan to use this question (do you believe in or subscribe to goals & intentions of the PNAC) as question to candidates in forums and call-in shows--republicans and democrats alike. If they give me a blank stare and just blink at me-- I'll cross em off my list!

Youre right, it would be great if we could get to the REAL issues instead of the silly antics-- but easier said than done.

PBS Frontline prog from 2003- the war behind closed doors

http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/iraq/

I'd been bothered for weeks because the Bush rationale for war just DID NOT ADD UP. It just did not make any sense-- like why Iraq, and why now....

Then, seeing this-- one of those "aha" moments.

7. I'd bet
if you mentioned to the average person on the street what PNAC was the percentage would have to be about 0.5%

So...how DO we get the word out? How DO we inform Joe (and Jane) Citizen about the PNAC? Letters to the editor? Start a blog?

14. If people don't know about it by now
There are a number of documentaries, specifically http://www.hijackingcatastrophe.org/ that deal with PNAC.

But all you can do is bring it up. Some may listen, others will just call you a conspiracy nut, and others will agree with those plans for world hegemony.

9. I complained about this on DU a long time ago during the pres. campaigns..
there seems to be a concerted effort on behalf of the MSM to keep the American public ignorant of PNAC, even to a great extent on Air America! We need to find some popular talking heads (KO??) who can start talking about the real history of the neocons and their very real influence in Washington.

10. It's true that the Project for a New American Century makes compelling
reading--they lay it all out, their whole fascist agenda and plans for the new Holy Roman Empire--especially the need for a "new Pearl Harbor" to get things jump-started.

But I have a theory I'd like to run by those familiar with PNAC, and that is, that it's just window-dressing, a means of getting/keeping certain parties on board, all the better if these "fourth reich" planners create chaos everywhere they go, due to their incompetence, inexperience, and ideology-driven actions, creating opportunities for mass looting of American taxpayers and others. It appears to me that the Bushites have no interest in governing, unlike the Nazies. They aren't into building anything, not even a fascist state. Their real agenda is greed, thievery, the looting of funds and resources. Katrina was an eye-opener, in this respect (so much closer to home than Iraq--the chaos, mayhem and upfront, no-bid contract looting easier to see). What an opportunity Katrina would have been, to unfold their "Homeland Security" state; to show its efficiency, can-do-ness, usefulness, etc.! And there was nothing there. Nothing! Chaos, and unbelievable (or was it deliberate?) incompetence.

What do you think? So they let these neocon loonies loose upon situations--like Iraq and the Middle East--and sit back and wait for the multi-billion dollar, no accountability contracts, and just live it up, packing on wads and wads of cash, and doing shoddy work or nothing in return.

Remember Rumsfeld: Freedom = the freedom to loot. That's his philosophy. And I'm sure it's Cheney's also.

Are they just USING the PNAC nuts to make it seem like they're doing something? To give a sort of philosophical/historical veneer to their thievery? But it means nothing to them--to the real powers behind the throne--and they would abandon it all in a minute, if it threatened their profiteering.

The country is going to wrack and ruin. Infrastructure falling apart. Education degraded, not geared to create engineers and high value employees any more. Bleeding jobs. Bleeding tax revenues from multiple, unbelievable tax cuts and tax breaks for those who could afford some taxes, without any pain, to build something here--a strong society, for whatever purpose. Hitler did the opposite--took a destroyed economy and country and made things work, for "good Germans" anyway.

Any sensible government, of whatever political stripe, would be investing massively in alternative energy--seeing very clearly that the US military simply cannot secure more oil reserves. Country stretched to the limit. Personal debt stretched to the limit--with usurious interest rates. This is not a strong country for ANY purpose, good or bad.

Huge debt, sold off to foreign powers of dubious intent (China! the Saudis!). Destruction of manufacturing base. Crippling of the middle class, with debt, with medical costs, education costs, heating and gas costs--and middle class jobs in jeopardy.

And no inspiring goals--not even delusional ones--that they really bother to convince anyone of. Not really interested in convincing--just biding their time, hoping their lame lies can hold out long enough for more looting and covering their asses legally.

Am I wrong? This is their fatal flaw, of course: their greed. I don't see any idealism in these people, not the main ones. I don't sense any strong belief--except maybe in being billionaires and hanging with billionaires, a sort of CEO clubbiness, if that's a belief. I don't see any viable program for building or reconstructing a society, just a rather loose coalition of interested parties, each exploiting opportunities for power or money or other agendas.

And Bush is such a lame-brain. Doesn't even have Hitler's diabolical intelligence. Not even close. Just a puppet--easily deflated.

A lot of the different strains in this junta have ominous connotations--indefinite detention, torture, loss of civil and human rights, contempt for the Constitution, dissing of science, mixing of state and religion, and also very pre-'29 Crash economics.

But I just don't see a plan. Or, what plan there was for some--PNAC--is falling to pieces, due to the LACK of commitment of the major players, and also the incompetence and juvenile expectations of the PNACers. I know they SAY a lot in the doc--it's all there in words and plans. But, maybe it's just dross to the likes of Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld and their corporate buds. No interest in governing. Couldn't care less about America, as a country, one way or the other.

Anyway, just a line of thought I've been following. I would be interested in discussion.

17. I agree. It's all about the bottom line.
Why would they be so careless as to broadcast their plans for all to see on the web, unless it were a ruse?

It's always about the money and prestige.

18. You make many excellent points....

I would put forth that there is one thing America does have which has been maintained in its superiority and that is our bombing capability. This was demonstrated in WWII, its what kept the Cold War ramped up, and it was clearly demonstrated in Desert Storm. I would go so far as to say that Desert Storm turned into one big demonstration by the burgeoning neocons of how advanced our capabilities had become. We have no problem spending 10s of billions at a pop on advanced military aircraft, but try to spend a fraction of this on education, NASA, alternative energy, etc, and it becomes a huge struggle.

The wealthy and powerful of the world now view our military capability (not in manpower, but in killing capability) as a means for safeguarding their status quo. This should provide a strong clue as to what the "conspiratorial" interests supporting the neocons are all about.

He even talked about the letter to Clinton sent by the PNAC group.

12. I'm in the process of finishing that very subject up
I have a documentary in the works that addresses that very issue. It has to become common knowledge. The major theme of the documentary is about 2004 grassroots politics, but the issue about PNAC and the MSM are critical pieces to the puzzle.

Stay tuned...

Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 08:15 PM by NoMoreMyths
Sometime in the spring of 03. A whole half hour. It was the only time I've seen it done on TV.

Koppel even said, "This story has all the makings of a conspiracy theory, except that it's true and real and happening right now."

That'll be the only time it's done, and certainly won't be done in Congress.
