Murtha reminded us what this party once was and still can be.
He's old school, he's got a lot of "street cred" because of his background and he can help us get back some of our moderate supporters. This guy is gold to us. I love him.

1. But wouldn't most people here hate him because he's a part of the
Military Industrial Complex...

You know a War Monger. They'd hate him like they hate Clark.

2. he definitely changed the debate away from Kennedy/ Kerry libs
comments from the screech machines. It is really inconvenient for the GOP to go wholesale after such a guy as Murtha. It is a wonderful next step in Reid and company

a) getting the focus on Iraq again after the Libby indictment came down and Bush tried to throw Alito out as a shiny bauble for us to focus on. how did they do it? By shutting down Senate with closed door hearings. MASTER STROKE

b) Bush and company going slightly insane and deciding to rip into opponents of war on the hallowed veterans day which showed he's a hack and kept focus on the 4 letter word those GOP now have draped around their necks.

c) Kerry/Reid/Kennedy and others pushing for bill to create a time table. The effect on the other party was that they realize the climate they're in and went along with some form of essentially reining in Bush's free wheeling no accountability ways.

d) now Murtha and other Dem moderates along with more GOP are starting to side with the "get out of Iraq" or "Iraq is a clusterfuck" crowd--namely, most of their constituents.

It's wonderful having truth on your side, but it's even better when you sell the truth so convincingly that even a full court press of lies won't help those slimy WH operatives.
