Vegans, Vegetarians and Kucinich fans!
I've written a cartoon that is going online Friday, as our day after Thanksgiving cartoon. It will feature the kind of food-related issues vegans and vegetarians will often face on a day like Thanksgiving, when so many people of different outlooks come together.

We'll go online with it at midnight central time Thursday night, here:
http://www.webcomicsnation.com/neillisst

I am posting this to let everyone know, since I expect many vegans have a tough time on Thanksgiving, even though I'm not one. Also, I wanted to let you know, in case some of you want to republish the cartoon at a vegan or Kucinich site. I think it will draw wry smiles from most vegans and vegetarians.

I'd like to know on this thread your thoughts on the proposed cartoon idea, and any places you think you might like to republish, assuming you like the cartoon.

Thanks.

1. I felt confused
I finally figured out that you weren't saying the veggie cartoon was there now, but I couldn't figure out why you didn't point us at the real cartoon if you wanted timely reactions to it.

5. Is it going to be a Vegan Cartoon?
I am a Vegan and would enjoy consuming humorous Vegan propaganda.

7. Yes. It will be good vegan propaganda.

I have adult children who are vegans. I'm not, but I've lived through the whole thing that meat eating parents live through when their kids become vegans. It's not just the ISSUES, it's compromising on meals, places to eat, etc.

I figure Turkey day will focus the meat v. vegan issues, so we'll run it Friday. It will be up around midnight central. It's a cute cartoon, too.

It has BEARS in it!

8. eridani, you'll be glad to know I'm also doing one on the DLC
... that I'm sure you'll like.

See, even though I want party unity, my cartoon is a commentary on the body politic. The generational struggle over diet is part of the body politic.

The DLC thing is part of it, too. In spite of my defense of DLC participation in the party, they've got some snakes.*

*we call this foreshadowing, yall ;)

12. Vegetarian, not Vegan here.
Years back someone in the local Sierra Club had a sign on his truck, "Support the right to arm bears."

I always loved it.

17. The line has been used forever.
One of the joys of doing a cartoon is the ability to use standard material in your own expression.

Everyone has the same info to work with, and everyone has to comment on it within a few days, or it grows stale.

The old "keep and arm bears" line has been used by many. There's something for everybody in the graphic presentation, I hope. Animal activists can like the fact that the bear has the gun, which implies he'll be doing the hunting. Gun peeps will like the weapon.

I heard George Carlin talking seriously about comedy once, and he said the key is to take something ordinary, and look at it from an unconventional angle. I'm influenced by years of Carlin, Johnny Carson, Dana Carvey, and Jon Stewart, among others.

19. True, each is unique in its expression.
I think the bear on the sign or bumpersticker on the car looked very confused and surprised by it all, can't really describe remember it in detail. The humor in that one though came partly from the switching of the words along with the poor bears look of puzzlement.
Also his sign didn't say Keep and arm bears, only to arm bears.

The bear in yours looks like he knows what's happening, and is indeed a part of a well Bear-armed militia.

It is fertile ground for cartoons.

13. Question - Didn't there used to be a Vegetarian/Vegan topics forum here?
I was just wondering if its still here and I just can't seem to find it.

Thanks -

Tim
